RailWorks.exe has stopped working

HELP!! I am new to this game, and I have tried everything that I can thing of. Everything is up to date on my computer that I know especially since I bought it 2 weeks ago. I have windows 8 64bit and Train Simulator 2013.

This is the message that I get:
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Buying it two weeks ago does not mean it is up to date. Most computers require updates right out of the box.

WTH is with the attitude?

I moved the thread to a location where you are much more likely to get some help and offered a bit of advice considering I've been working on these things 30 years.

Here is something for you... tell us exactly what computer you purchased and we could probably offer better advice.

You came across having an attitude. I have been working on computer for years myself, however, I never was a big gamer. Until I seen this one that a friend of mine had. I thought it would be fun and not a headache. boy was I mistaken.


COMPUTER SPECS:
Toshiba
Satelite P850
i7-3630QM @ 2.4GHz (3.4 over clocked)
16GB DDR3 1600
Windows 8 64bit
Intel HD Graphics 4000

As is, I have not updated anything. what should I update? Someone said to try reinstalling it again. I did that twice last night and tried verifying.. with no luck.

While W8 comes with the latest version of DX, it doesn't necessarily have all the backward compatibility with DX9, which is required by the game.

Unfortunately, I have yet yet had the chance to work on a W8 machine out of the box, with Vista and W7 it was necessary to install DX9 from Microsoft to get many games working correctly.

I freaking hate W8, if you can avoid it to so. I thought W7 was horrible when that came out... this is by far the worst...

I downloaded and installed DX9, however, that did not fix whatever is going on with this d@mn thing.

Since we aren't getting any other responses, I think it would best if I move this to the Railworks forum. There may be additional help there. I have subscribed to this thread and will post if I find anything that might help. One thing I sure of: this game will work on W8, we may just need to find out why it won't on your machine.

I'm buying W8 tommorow or the next day. I won't be able to install it for a bit yet but I'll be checking it out in the near future.

After looking in those forums, I have reconsidered. Not enough activity there.

I do suggest you look in both the forum here for the game as well as the old forums, see if you can find anything. I'll look myself when I finish dinner.

It's either Windows 8 or your "integrated intel hd graphics", *some games do not run on it, in theory every game that runs on Win7 should run on Win8 but i know there are several games who do not want to play nice on Win8.

If it isn't Windows 8 it's most likely your "intel HD 4000" graphics, i don't even know if the game *officially supports intel hd graphics but you might want to try updating the drivers for it any way. I've always used deticated graphics card myself so i don't know exactly how to do this with an integrated gpu/cpu.

Buying a toshiba laptop does not mean everything on it is "up to date" btw. On a sidenote this laptop clearly isn't meant for "intensive" gaming, i wonder why they put in 16 Gb ram in the damn thing without a decent, deticated gpu....

Thank You both... I speced the computer to have 16Gb of ram becaus I thought that it came with a Nvidia GeFroce 630M 2GB... I am just finding out that it has not... and I am in the process of contact Toshiba.

I am in the process of exchanging and paying a little bit more money... listed below is what I am trying to get.... the real diiference is the 15.6 is now 17.3 and the graphics card, which says it comes with the P850...

Those specs seem quite nice (for a laptop), i'd try to find out what is causing the problem first before going all out and upgrading it.

I did some more research on the game and while windows 8 should be supported, windows 7 is recommended to run the game on though. I've seen some people who are running the game on windows 8 without any problems so it *probably is the lack of any deticated gpu or that the intel hd 4000 graphics integrated gpu is not supported.

I called toshiba today and they told me that my laptop is still under warranty but I can't just swap it which was obvious to me... they told me that I would have to have a hardware issue...welll to me if it won't run the game then that is a hardware issue. I have been thinking of just returning this one and paying a little bit extra to have the graphics card... As long as "they" don't release drivers to work with integrated graphics or the game gets updated or something no you can't force anything. Having a deticated graphics card in a laptop always helps when you want to game on it.

I didn't think that I could but it never hurts to ask... I bought this computer for things like gaming, and I do a lot of multi-media work.... I told the guy this on the phone when I was ordering it and I speficially remember stating that I wanted that Nvidia Graphics card... so they are getting a few phone calls and atleast one e-mail from me today.
