The zip code is the important piece of data when purchasing games with gift cards. I would use your home address just to keep things consistent.
There is always a chance of a purchasing problem with any card. Things break. However, your money is NOT lost. If the transaction doesn't go though, your money stays on your card. If the transaction goes through but something happens in the Steam Store, you contact the Steam Store and either have the transaction completed or get a refund / credit.
Phantom Strike had a related question. I answered it. What's the problem?
When you need to verify the Vanilla Gift Card, you must log onto their web site https://www.vanillavisa.com/home.html. And go to your account history, you will see that steam took some money, it could be any amount from $1.15 - $1.75 but take both of those amounts that steam took, and use them to verify your card on steam. But make sure that your address is also correct, and also make sure that you register the zip code on the card. I hope helps.
ive enterd all of my informaton correctly but it says there was an error intiliing or updating your transaction every time i try to enter my info
