Error called... steam.exe - No Disk
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert disk into drive \Device\Harddisk3\DR3

Um.... so this is caused somehow but TF2 trying to update. Pausing it's update or doing a fresh delete/reinstall seems to fix this, but with the new update it caused it again. I really don't want to uninstall and reninstall again withing 3 days (happened on Friday aswell).

Am unsure if this bug is caused by updating in general or only TF2 specific. Last couple days are the first times seeing. That said, TF2 updates regularlly cause me steam errors so might just completely uninstall it as I do not play it often.

This just started happening to me, too! This is terribly annoying. My Steam Library Folders are on the C, D, and H drives. (5, 10, and 130 games respectively). But this error keeps popping up: "steam.exe - No Disk" "Thereis no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive G:."

I don't have a G: drive! I'm running Windows 8 Professional 64-bit.

I'm getting the same thing. It just started an hour ago.

"There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device]Harddisk3\DR8." I can close it out, but the error reappears in a matter of minutes. For the moment the only way I can deal with it is to move it down to the bottom of the screen and ignore it. I don't seem to be having any other problems except for the annoying error message.

I'm having this problem too, and it's a huge issue.

I've had the same thing (except it says dr5 instead of 3) since yesterday. It starts when steam starts up, and won't go away unless I close steam entirely. Which I now have to do through the task manager, several times before steams actually closes down. Some kind of official response would be great.

Yep, I have the same problem when steam starts up, it just gives me this error, never actually starts up, and just repeats the error until I close the steam.exe process all together....I don't see how it could be coincidence that all of us have gotten this issue at the same time. Especially with having the same TF2 issue with it trying to update but never completing for the last few weeks. Steam...please help?!

Same problem here, updated Steam about three days ago, and upon boot and every half hour or so after the error message pops up and will NOT GO AWAY! D:
Device\Harddisk1\DR1 is my particular error. Closing Steam through the task manager gets rid of it for a while, but it's really frustrating when it happens mid-game.
Response/update please chaps?

Just a note, mine just happened to randomly start working now when I tried to start up steam again. Is anyone else's working now by chance?
Arnir Feb 19, 2013 @ 4:09pm
Mine has been doing it since I got home from work. \Device\Harddisk4\DR4. Very annoying.

@Snipez. Nope, still happening. Also, I now have the hiccups. Coincidence? I think not.

I just got the same problem and here is the solution that worked for me:
- Start "Disk Management" from start menu or from "Run" with "diskmgmt.msc" command
- All disks are named "Disk xxx". Find what is your "Hardiskxxx" in case and look what is wrong with it, if it's a DVD drive - try to put a disk in it, otherwise right click on "Disk xxx" select "Change letters..." and delete drive name (of course is disk is not used for something else).
In my case the problem was in a 3G wireless modem which after starting left an unformatted disk in the system and steam for some reason was trying to access it.
I have also tried with Process Monitor to look what steam wants to read, but didn't found anything useful, bau you can give it a try.

Disk 5 (DR5 in my error) seems to be a microdrive slot, physically located next to my sd slot. I don't even know what a microdrive is, let alone have one to insert. I'm not about to screw around in my disk manager though, what if I break something?

On the steam client front, it's now gotten worse. Before, at least the client would start up and I could click on things. Now it immediately crashes with this message:

"Steam Client Bootstrapper (buildbot_winslave04_steam_steam_rel_client) is not responding."

I haven't been able to start a game since this nonsense started. I'd really like to play games again Valve. It's no longer funny.

I have been having this same issue and found it to be my card reader. What concerns me is why the hell does Steam need to be scanning through all of my other HDDs. Bit of a privacy issue here I think?

Steam's anti-cheat has always been rather intrusive. I personally don't have a problem with it but I can see how it would make alot of people squimish.
Drenegade Feb 22, 2013 @ 5:04pm
So you're saying that the Anti Cheat measures are causing this error? What are you basing that off?
Alceraptor Feb 22, 2013 @ 5:49pm
I've been having this problem since the new update but it was just happening in the games window, and I could just go around it using the store page to find the games I own that I want to play, now it's happening all the time. What the hell? I've already sent in a help case since the last update, so far no replies...
