STEAM Client refresh/repair/reinstall?
Is there a way to refresh/repair/reinstall the STEAM Client so that I can keep my games and avoid re-downloading and re-installing each game software?

I think it would resolve the fact that every time that I go to the "games menu" and click "activate a new product" I receive several error messages. I click through the errors, but I am a bit concerned about getting the errors in the first place.

Errors:

Steam - no disk,
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive\Device\Harddisk3\DR3.

Steam - no disk,
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive\Device\Harddisk4\DR4.

Steam - no disk,
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive\Device\Harddisk5\DR5.

Steam - no disk,
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive\Device\Harddisk3\DR6.

Steam - no disk,

If you reninstall steam you keep all your games but it has to be the profile that you have the games on if you reinstall it it justs undownloads the games and you just have to downlaod them again they dont go out of your games library if thats what you mean

Have you been getting any errors or odd behavior outside of Steam? I ask because those errors might suggest an underlying disk problem.

I just read this thread and agree with this poster - It sounds like you might have a Harddrive Failure starting and you should BACKUP everything vital ASAP - Just in case - yes we could be wrong - but then again ... just saying ....

Yes there is a way to repair steam - delete everything in your steam folder except steamapps and Steam.exe. Run steam.exe and it should redownload and reinstall Steam. Steamapps folder is where your game files are stored and so if you don't delete it you won't have to redownload your games. Try that and see if the errors continue

If the repair method Delph described doesn't work, you can follow the uninstallation instructions here. Since you would be reinstalling the client, you'd want to move (not copy- that takes much longer) your steamapps folder somewhere else and then move it back after you've reinstalled the client.

I agree with jjb-54 that you problem may be hardware related, in which case reinstalling the client won't help. You should backup your data to a NAS or external hard drive ASAP. Depending on how often you use your computer, it's a good idea to make fresh backups at least every couple of weeks anyway.

In the future, if you come across other problems, it may be better to post about them in the "Help and Tips" section, where there are more people that expect to come across such questions.

@ All Posts 3, 4, 5, 6: Initial hardware thests say that there is nothing (will do deeper tests this weekend)

@ Delph: Thanks! I'll try your "repair meathod," but isn't the "link meathod" in Gnoj's post almost the same?

@ Gnoj: Thanks! I'll try the "link meathod"

"Steam - no disk,
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive\Device\Harddisk5\DR5."

Damn that is dumb. They instruct you to insert a disk into a hard drive ............

This worked for me! Thank you so much
Thanks guys this may have majorly helped me. I have been having issues with workshop items not downloading, or steam thinking that there is a download but theres not, preventing me from downloading anything else.
