Sorry it took so long to reply, herofallenvillain had trouble finding my post!
You would think that Steam would at least bother to make some sort of offcial comment on this matter! If they have please point me to it.
1) Thats a bit complicated. I was on 'Unwired' ISP when I set up, that had a wireless modem that connectd to laptop by an Ethernet cable, now I am on Virgin Broadband using Wi FI to connect their modem to the laptop.
2) IIRC "There is no steam login information stored on this computer"
(offtopic whinge)
My real problem at the moment is that I have tried to install Homefront (from DVD) about 3 times now, and still haven't been able to use it at all because as soon as I load it STEAM starts downloading 'updates' which seems to mean a total reload of the entire game (Gigabytes!) Used 2.5 days allowance (480 Mb) in half an hour! I only have a 6Gb a month plan!
Finally, to anyone reading this, saying they don't have much computer skill... it's not hard. Read back, there isn't that many pages. All the fixes here are basic, find the folder, find the file, tricks. If that's too much, maybe you should learn the basics or not own a computer. Just stating the practical :P

I dont want to waist time on this anymore, I just did not like being told to shut up in your earlier post, but I should have known better than to make any comments.
"Water under the bridge, peace on earth, bygons be bygons", take your pick, lets try to solve the issue at hand, which is not having acces to games when there is no internet connection, nothing else.
Morpeus, I tried your idea be not shutting my computer down and that worked for me, I was able to play all steam games for my last transit which was 16 days. So if possible, just keep logged in.
That is not a final solution but it is helping me right now, at least.
1) I'm only even replying because you are wrongly quoting me! Again, learn what you are doing before you get offended and fire off your insecurities! Do you not understand that the way you posted, you are saying I said all of that? Reinforced by the fact that what you did qoute me on has nothing to do with your point! No matter how many times I read that, I can't seem to deduce any way that can be perceived as "shut up"! It's nothing more than a suggestion, no matter how bad you take it.
2) Try proof-reading what you write before posting it.
3) You Sir, are indeed proceeding to waste time & cause me to do the same. All for no other reason, than for you to get butthurt & assume everything is about you. Even when explained, in depth, that is wasn't!
4) I never told you to "shut up"! It would seem your reading skills are as bad as your computer skills & perception! I could have helped you with your problems had you not decided to create aggression, as it seems I am the only one that has been regularly monitoring this thread. To help others, that is, not to bash idiots like you!
5) If you proceed to qoute me again, at least do it accurately! I advise you stop persueing this issue as you only seem to make yourself look worse. Have a great day & go away!
Even though I don't really need it, it's a shame OFFLINE mode has limited functionality :( I guess it's to prevent sharing games, but are there really so many users doing it?
Consider the issue reloved. Lets move on. Seriously, I appologise and like my previous post thisis meant to resolve the issue and not to aggregate the situation further.
wesselv777 - I except your appology & appologize, myself, for name calling and getting quite aggressive. In light of things, I extent my offer to swenor, to you as well^^
EDIT: Haha, swenor I just saw your profile pik in full size & love it lmao Very Gamer^^

My gamer profile? Meh. I don't like it. I want old layout back. I don't like the one that came with steam cards.
1) Make a backup of clientregistry.blob somewhere before you switch Steam to offline mode.
2) If your Steam fails to start giving out something like "information not found" (and it usually happens in 2 weeks) - set your system clock back to day of backup, overwrite current clientregistry.blob with an old one and enjoy!
Hey Captain^^
That's likely a problem/solution for many people getting random "no login info" errors. However that's likely unrelated to this thread specifically. This thread is for a known Steam "safe-guard" for attempting to prevent hacks & abuse of their systems. It's just that for a portion of rightful game/content owners, these safe-guards make Steam all but worthless without a connection.
-----------------------------THREAD SUMMARY---------------------------
The problem here lies only when something in Steam (blobfile is suspected) reaches it's time-out period, usually within 1-2 weeks of going into offline mode. This seems to happen only when the computer is turned off.
The helps/solutions to this problem are:
1) Easiest of all, leave your computer turned on. This prevents Steam from timing out, which I can personally verify works!
-Morpheus has stated that allowing your computer to enter stand-by instead of shutting down will work if you can't leave it on.
-Zoq-Fot-Pik states that hibernation on the other hand is a risky option, often causing Steam to force close & "time-out".
2) Hack your phone for hotspot (if you don't have it). This allows Steam to re-acquire your login info. I can again confirm this works. (try "PDA Net+" or "Fox Fi")
3) If you can plan ahead, you can copy the "ClientRegistry.blob" file (While in online mode. Make sure to close Steam first). Once Steam times out, Overwrite the blob file with your copy & set your computers time/date back to when you copied the blob file. I haven't tried this but I believe it to be true.
4) Simply setting your time/date back. I have not confirmed this and am not entirely sure it will work. (I'm looking back now and I think this may be a plausible solution if you continually set the date back BEFORE the time out period, but AFTER "properly" entering offline mode.)
Other notes:
1) Steam being forced to close will effectively make Steam timeout, requiring internet upon it's next start to acquire the login info. This often happens when the computer shuts down. Manually closing Steam before shutdown can sometimes prevent this.
2) Switching off cloud & updating your games may help increase the time it takes for Steam to timeout.
3) If Steam senses a connection it will try to update. Switching off network adapters before entering offline mode should help prevent this.
4) Blob file and date seem to be directly linked
5) Some games can be launched through the "Steam/SteamApps" folders even without Steam working.
Thank you everyone for your help. I hope this accurately sums things up and helps everyone.
