Steam needs to be online to update, but was set to offline mode.{SOLUTION}
OKAY! Before you ask, No, I'm not on a Mac. It appears (through research) that I must be the only win7 user to EVER experience this!!!
Okay, so here it is. I recently installed a 240gb Kingston HyperX3k as my boot drive/steam drive. That's all good and great. PROBLEM! Steam starts INSTANTLY and thinks I'm not connected to the internet, which I am. This happens because it boots before the computer fully connects. Now, I never set it to offline mode, it did it on it's own. This is so bad, I can't launch steam AT ALL. I've tried finding the registry and changing " offline 1 " to "offline 0", but I can't find the registry!

I know this seems to be a huge problem on Mac, but I seem to be the only one experiencing it on win7!

Suggestions anyone?

SOLUTION:
WOW, well I found the solution elsewhere and I must say it was a pain, but here it is incase anyone ever needs this!

1. Close all instances of Steam and make sure it isn't running.
2. Open regedit.exe (by clicking the start-up bar/windows logo on the taskbar and typing in "regedit" in "Search Programs and Files")
3. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then to Software, and then to Valve.
4. Press on the "Steam" folder and to the right, registries should pop up.
5. Right click "Offline" and click "Modify Binary Data".
6. Set it to 0 (if it is at 1 under Data)

OHMYGOD you just saved my bacon. No, you saved an entire species of pig. A new extra-delicious species which I'm naming in your honour. I award you One Million(1,000,000) Internets.

Thanks so much!!! It was such a headache going to all the other forum websites and telling you to find the registry.vdf file when it was no where to be found on my computer. You rock!

Quite rediculous that this is even an issue. I've seen posts from people having this problem dating back to 2010. Come on valve, fix this!

I'm running windows 7 and "offline" does not appear in the registry. I tried entering it manually to no effect as well. I've been having this problem for a while now and haven't been able to find a solution which works.
