Recording with MSI Afterburner?
I am currently trying to record some videos for The Binding of Issac with MSI Afterburner, but alas something always goes wrong. Whenever I press the hot key to record it does not record. So my question is what settings do you have to have MSI and/or BoI to enable recording or is there something else I am doing wrong? Much Obliged.

I use MSI Afterburner, and as far as I know it displays the overlay and can screenshot and record from driver level so it shouldn't be anything to do with the game. Make sure that you have keys set for, and have enabled the options for screenshot & toggle record, and the overlay is enabled also. If they are, then make sure that there's an output folder, and filetypes set too.

If you can enable the overlay in the game, then try your record toggle option. You should see the icon (rotating circular one, like vista) just underneath.

Tip - The overlay doesn't display on the desktop (at least not on mine), but the record function works there too, and captures every action on screen. Check your output folder for the files.

Ok well here is the thing I can record fine on other games and the FPS meter is shown on anything that can be recorded. I found this out because I had to unpin Accuweather and media player because they too were also being captured. But for The Binding of Issac no meter is shown and no clips are being recorded when I toggle the F1 key which I changed from the default one which I think was F9.

Hmm that is strange. Is the F1 key used at all in the game? Maybe a different shortcut might make a difference if there's some hardcoded command in the game itself.. I use shift + numpad keys so as to avoid conflicts from that kind of thing myself.

If it's not that, then you could try opening up the systray icon for the OSD, and making sure there's an entry for the game in the programs list there. Try changing the settings for the Overlay - for the game itself not the general entry at the top of the list - the Raster 2D, Vector 3D and Raster 3D options are the likely culprits for the thing not showing in game, if it needs a different setting to the one it's on to run properly. On screen display support needs to be set to on, naturally, but the detection level setting might affect it too.

Ok I will try the first one and not too seem ignorant but I am clueless on how to do anything mentioned in the second paragraph..sorry.

On the OSD tab in Afterburner options, the "more" button will open the window I was talking about. Sorry, should have been more clear on what I was talking about, my bad :) Here's a screenshot of the window I mean: http://www.1337upload.net/files/stats.png

The 2D/3D options are three different ways in which the program can display the intended info in the game screen, and sometimes one setting will work for some things and not others. I've had no real trouble with most things using Raster3D, but some might work better with a different setting. It's as simple as clicking on the one you want to try.

If you want to try adding another program to the list if it's missing, the plus icon in the bottom left can do so, you just need to browse to the file .exe and it's done. Highlighting it in that list *before changing anything else, will alter options only for that program, and the top one is a global setting for all games/programs that it finds.

The wrench icon opens up a small options menu too, that has a checkbox for "Compatibility with modified Direct3D runtime libraries" That may be one to try also.

I'd test all these out myself and just tell you if they worked, but I don't have the game :/ I hope it helps a bit anyway.

This is so frustrating. :(

Well I still can't find an answer....I have tried everything...I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Hmm.. It could be because it's a flash game then. I thought it would have picked it up but apparently after looking into it the pc version still used a flash renderer. There is a newer version just out though, 2.3.1 maybe that will be able to do it. Still trying to figure out how the guy got that youtube recording to work

I'm trying to figure out the same thing aswell, I even messaged another guy using MSI to record BoI and all he said was "Uhm. I dont remeber the settings on isaac. But msi has settings on full frame and framerate at 31 FPS and thats all i changed." I don't undertand it..

Maybe it has to be run in a window and the recording done like a desktop recording, that's what the youtube video looked like.. would explain why there's no OSD in it..

I have tried in both full screen and windowed mode..Still nothing, There has to be somebody out there with the same problem.

I might have found a possible solution, I used FRAPS to see if my game would record and as expected it didn't however (since FRAPS is more widely used) I started looking into how people were recording it with FRAPS and turns out there is a option in fraps "Monitor Aero desktop (DWM)" when I checked the box I could record my game! (however I will need Sony Vegas Pro to crop out the rest of my desktop in the recording). Seeing as you probally have been using MSI longer than me is there an option like what I just used in fraps in MSI?

MSI can record the desktop, if you have Afterburner and the OSD running in the taskbar too (MSI as the icon like a plane, OSD has the fps on it too usually but is the same), then just hitting the record keys from desktop will record though it won't show the on screen display as there's no 3D application to place it in.

I wasn't sure how to do that either to begin with and found that through experimenting with it, the record function and I think screenshot too, will work on the desktop without changing any settings. Just check the target folders for the files it creates after you're done :)
