Steam Downtime Announcement - January 22nd 2013, ~16:00 PST (GMT-0800)

Valve will be updating some of the Steam servers on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 at approximately 16:00 PST (GMT-0800).

Game play for most users should not be interrupted, but Steam chat, game lobbies, matchmaking, and community web features will be unavailable. Content downloads may be temporarily interrupted. Certain multiplayer games that aggressively check for an active Steam connection may also be affected.

Nice of you to go to the effort to post a thread of the announcement, this has just increased it's 'visibility', go gurl!
Oh just one thing I gotta ask about VALVe's time announcements. I live in GMT, like you, so do we assume, looking at the time, that we have to considder it as the *23rd*?

In GMT, this downtime is scheduled for the midnight crossover of 22nd to 23rd. For arguments sake, I'll say 00:01GMT on Wednesday 23rd January. :)

The downtime hasn't started yet. The downtime isn't for another 9 hours.

So that's even more confusing, don't you think? : 08:00 or 00:01 ? ? ? WTF? lol
I thought it was scheduled for 16:00 PST? Which, I'm guessing would make it 08:00 GMT on the FOLLOWING day? but the posting has not included the gmt DATE...if they had just added the gmt DATE also it wouldn't be that vague...without sounding too passive/agg', uh, I seem to have connection losses and a slow working steam client at any time, often, so I don't know if there's some kind of updated version? or..my comp is of a good perf. so I just grin and bear these downtimes, whenever they are, and wait for the tech to improve over the years..luckily my impatient youth is far behind me :)

because they have mentioned 0800 this is more representative as a time rather than an hourly value. I have managed to decypher it now, didnt help being broken onto a new line either..they tried to say -8hrs but have put it as 0800 = a time of the day!!! Durps!

0800 is just as much of an hourly value as 1600 is.
When people say the phrase, as an example, "Sixteen Hundred Hours" that's 1600/16:00/4PM. So GMT-0800 is the same as saying GMT Minus Zero Eight Hundred Hours, or GMT-8.

I am well educated in chronological theory and its values...missed my point i think, never mind...

0800...
8hrs...

Though similar in appearance, the two have very different meanings, as you know :) this is what confused me hun, I thought it was saying 08:00 as a time, not ''8hrs behind''
I'm sure I'll learn everyone's different interpretations over time and wont be as...naiive to it in future ;)

i havent been able to since a few weeks ago then the content servers unreachable message kept coming up
what should i do?
