The Secret World WONT RUN
Hi all,
I just paid and installed The Secret World. However when I click "Play" it says "NSlookup has stopped working" - and then - "The secret world has stopped working" with the error message in front of the auto ran "Systemtweaker.exe" of secret world (I have no idea where steam stored this game).

So...I have sent a ticket, but I Doubt I will get a response. Any one have a solution before I Start fighting for a refund?

NO! I hate these kind of responses. I have ALL the basics down. A l33T pc, all up to date. I know how to get the basics out of the way. This is in fact the 2nd game from steam that starts up at first..then dies at launch. I want refund soon. I installed and ran the game fine on Funcom, but my log in was blocked because they have no active customer support to activate new accounts so I was locked in a "pending" mode for 3 days. I see here in steam I can't even get to the log in, I am just errored out at launch.

I think your brians broke. I have APPLIED all your solutions. How can one update an updated driver? I already checked. I can't quadruple update a driver up to date. Please give real help and not trolling.
I appreciate you giving the basic 101 run of "check to make sure the power chord is in"...I am past that point my friend. I am currently trying another process of accessing files and OVER RIDE the Steam launcher as it causes problems, and runs like crap. I will access the game directly and launch it independent. So far it seems to be working and auto patching! YES! My problem...how to log in? Will Steam need to verify me? Do I need to plug the key in Funcom? Wtf...great way to lose customers.

I don't recall you ever saying you've done everything in that Support Article I linked. I'm not psychic. Sorry.

In that case, though, what are your system specs, please?

If you don't know these, go to your main Steam window and click "HELP" along the top. Then click "System Information". Paste what that brings up here (but remove the "Installed Software" section from your paste. We don't need that! )

We are not mind readers and have to go through diagnostic steps. We have NO IDEA what you have or have not done yet.

1) No you are not psychic so why would you respond as: If you're not willing to try solutions then you can't be looking for help?
If you are not psychic stop trying to come off as know it all. You had no idea if I tried all or not. AND I mention that I did all that and you still act like an ASS.

There is not allot of steps after that.
FOR THE GUYS with my problem, here is something I have done:
1) Paid using US VISA on FUNCOM - installed and account no log in. I tourbleshoot and find out payment denied. OK

2) Paid using local EU VISA card, it takes payment but is in a state of pending for 2 days. OK.

3) I check today after putting in a ticket. My ticket is not responded to and my account is labeled as banned 3 days later, and banned 2 hours after the 1st payment (I installed for a whole day, and while the game was installing I apparently was banned...but not for bad behavior, I think their system is bugged based off of forum research into my problem since support does not work).

4) I cancelled payments (hoping to hell they do not charge me for my 3 attempts on 2 different cards). And I have purchased the game through STEAM... Steam launcher fails (like it failed last year on me) and says nslookup failed, then it tries to fire up systemtweak.exe in TSO and "the secret world failed to launch". Their support is slow of course and I am stuck... my payment took so that is good... now if I can get the account...

5) Just now I lurked into the files of steam and found the game and launched the launcher...it is auto patching now and almost done. I came here and copy and pasted my steam key to create an account. Seems to have worked...it even asked me to link funcom and steam..I did...all seems ok now as far as sign ins... NOW the test will be at the actual log in of the game...it is almost done loading. BTW that is a total of 3 installs of a 30gig game. Steam was a little faster than funcom and is finished in 5 hours. Funcom took 24...

IF this does not work...suing LOL!

I never said you don't want help. I said IF. In addition, Nowhere in your first post did you mention that you have updated your drivers, verified the game files or updated your Windows OS.

Chargebacks are a sure-fire way to lose access to your Steam Account. I'm almost certain this is mentioned somewhere either on Steam Support or in the SSA.

Finally, if you are going to be rude then you really can't expect help. Would you want to help someone who is being unnecessarily and unfairly aggressive towards you?

AND PS THE ENTIRE STEPS OF STEP 5 where you have to copy and paste and link accounts and all that mess... IS NOT SPELLED OUT ANYWHERE on steam after you buy it. Nor would I have naturally thought to do that on funcom if it was not for the "oh hell, why not, what else could go wrong" point....Just a HEADS UP for any other NEW COMERS using windows 7 i3 - Radeaon 6xxxx series. Also, this has nothing to do with my windows or anything interfering as mentions above by the other guys trying to help. This is all to do with account and fail support on the STEAM and funcom. In the end, FUNCOM is cleaner as steam has x2 file storage on your HD - but funcom has ♥♥♥♥ account and buggy account creation, so you are FORCED to steam to link it back in funcom later.......omg this just feels stupid to even type out...how broke. This game better blow me away. I should get refund for pain and suffering.

It is NOT direct X omg. IT is not windows. Stop giving me basic "is your pc plugged in crap". I would have said: "oh hey thanks that worked" if it was the case. It is not. It is the STEAM client trying to auto launch the WRONG file. It is hardwired to systemtweak.exe and NOT The secret world.exe. Just found that out. DERP

Hmm, you know this could nave been a lot better if you had just gone away and calmed down for a minute, Frazer is a very kind and helpful person, as are the other guys here, including the moderator who had to step in, all you had to say was yes, frazer, I've already done that but thanks for at least trying to help me. IT WORKS! I FIXED IT MYSELF!
SOLUTION: STEAM LAUNCHER IS HARDWIRED TO THE WRONG FILE!!!!

IT IS LAUNCHING SYSTEMTWEAK.EXE and not THESECRETWORLD.exe.
