This is the only thing stopping me from getting the Steam pre-order. If it does include the Exclusive Competitive Multiplayer Pack, I'll pre-order it right away!

I checked Gamestop's, Steam's, and Green Man Gaming's descriptions and I would say that's likely a Gamestop preorder bonus only. Strange, Gamestop usually posts in ginormous letters if the bonus is exclusive to them only.

Is this PC DOWNLOAD version of the game Steam friendly? I would like to add this game to my Steam library, so before I pre-order I'd like to know more about this.

Correct. Aliens: Colonial Marines is a Steamworks title on PC, so it activates on Steam regardless of where you buy it.

I know Steam allows many boxed games with a CD key to attach that key to your Steam account so you can download / manage / and play the game via Steam.
