Help: Windows 7 Hibernates mid-game...
I recently started using Big Picture mode and an xbox 360 wireless controller + reciver to play on my TV. However- whenever i do this- regardless of what game- my computer hibernates after a seemingly random amount of time.

I have disabled Hibernate from the power options. (Win 7 64 bit laptop)- I have run a console command to turn off hibernating - and I have changed a setting in device manager so gamepads *should* wake up the computer- which should make it never sleep...

Yet it keeps happening.

I even tried moving my mouse every so often yet windows still just sorta melts away into hibernation land.

Any idea how to stop this?

Thanks

do u have the hybernate key on ur keyboard, ie a little key that looks like a moon or a moon behind a window?
if so, that may be it.
if not, try going into the screensaver and turning it off.
if that doesnt help then IDK.

No moon key from what i can see. Though i certainly don't have one on my xbox controller - so not sure how that key would be doing this. ;s. Ty anyways

Here's the DXDIAG-
http://ompldr.org/vZ3lpNA]http://ompldr.org/vZ3lpNA

Also- Using the event viewer i found this in the System Catagory-- Telling me my PC is going to sleep:

There are 13 events between 1:30 & 1:31 ((the time it took to go to sleep and come back.) - 2 of the events are errors- though they are not the first events that started before the crash.

THe final Information says the computer came out of sleep mode.

"The system has resumed from sleep.

Sleep Time: ‎2013‎-‎01‎-‎05T21:30:23.677847900Z
Wake Time: ‎2013‎-‎01‎-‎05T21:31:02.343334200Z

Wake Source: Device -USB Root Hub"

In order of what happened according to the log:

1. The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service entered the paused state.
2. The Windows Error Reporting Service service entered the running state.
*3*. The system is entering sleep.
Sleep Reason: Application API
4. The system time has changed to ‎2013‎-‎01‎-‎05T21:30:56.500000000Z from ‎2013‎-‎01‎-‎05T21:30:33.374402500Z.

Looking at more event logs & getting suggestions on another techy forum- i'm going to disable WIA since that could be what's causing my issues.

Update: Turned off WIA- figure i don't need it anyways. Same problem happened- except this time the culprit was: The Application Experience service

I went to disable this yet i wasn't quite able to because it was shown as if it were already stopped.

Does this new info change anything?

I'd look up problems with hibernation stemming from tv's. my computer used to go to sleep even with setings off like you but I can't for the life of me remember what I did to stop it, sorry. I have a samsung tv too but mine is a 5 series.

I don't think that's the problem- since i have watched movies on my TV via HDMI from my PC without any problems inthe past. Unless - it's the fact that i'm not just watching stuff- but playing games, that makes a diff?

Didn't realize my Graphics driver was out of date- interesting. And yea- i was thinking about updating BIOS- though i am hesitant i have heard plenty of horror stories of people updating bios and something goes wrong and their laptop becomes a paperweight. - I don't know the proper way to do it.

I should have posted this update- I found out that the problem is related to being on the TV and gaming with the laptop lid shut. I can game with my laptop lid Open and things seem to be just fine.My settings are set so closing lid should do nothing so its puzzling. Currently i'm okay living with this workaround assuming its not overstressing my GPU to have the picture on two displays (i don't think it should even matter?)

Ty for the help/info

It's old topic, but maybe will be helpful for someone. I had the same problem consistently, some (mostly intense 3D graphic ones) games caused my laptop to hibernate. Also, that was the case just when i used external monitor. I thought it was due to poor ventilation due to closed lid, so opened it a bit, not fully, and it fixed that hibernation problem..kind of. Sometimes it goes suddenly to hibernate, but it happens too erratic for systematic conclusion. I hate, that there is no popup with explanation why it enters that mode. In Event Viewer you can find Kernel-Power generated event with id 42, and that particular event have three (in my case) descriptions: "Button or Lid", "System Idle" and "Application API". The last one, Application API, is the devil, but there investigation stops :) What app and why. So, it's maybe related to third party software, i have no idea.
