Team Fortress 2 is running slow on linux.
I reacently downloaded Team Fortress two on linux, but the sound is laggy and the game is almost unplayable. I've tried changing the settings to the lowest as posible, but that didn't seem to work. Can anybody help?

Im running Ubuntu 12.10, but im unsure of my gpu and the driver im using.Do you know were i could find the information?
Yes. At the top it say what my graphics card is (it is a Radeon HD 6450), and it says under it is using X. Org X server - AMD/ATI display driver wrapper from xserver-xorg-video-ati (opensource, tested). That is the driver im using right now, but there are 2 other drivers listed under the one i am using.
the other two are: Using Video driver for the AMD graphics accerlerators from fglrx (proprietary), and the other one is: Using Video driver for the AMD graphics acceratros from fglrx-updates (proprietary). Those are the other two drivers listed under the one i am using.
ok thanks for the help. Ive been thinking of buying a copy of windows 7, or windows 8 for this computer. SInce it seems better than gaming than linux.
*for gaming than linux
I think I have the same problem. Team fortress 2 takes a lot of time to load itself and any map. I think it is up to 5 times the time I got in wine or windows. Also the game itself is unplayable, everything lags enormously.
My configuration is as follows:
OS: GNU/Linux Gentoo
CPU: Intel core i7-3930k
Video: AMD 7970GHz with proprietary fglrx driver.
If someone has a solution, I'd be glad to hear it.

Disable Catalyst A.I. and see how that goes.
It didn't help. I think it has something to do with game's resources, since it loads very slowly, it takes a lot of time to get to the greeting screen after one has connected to the server and models of players load by parts.
During the gameplay itself if I go to some small closed area, I'm able to run, jump, move as fast as possible, hovewer if I come out of this area, lagfrst begins. It is not like when you have low fps, but rather may be represented by loading in the first silent hill game, everything becomes delayed.
I now have windows but i was able to fix the lag with a new video driver but i was running ubuntu linux 12.10
Gabe claimed performance improvements under Linux. WTF happened?
there is preformance improvements but you have to configure it, so just out of the box everyting is comfigured but not for gaming so you have to change the drivers or the Linux configurations to get the improments.
Messaggio originale di Fred:
Is there anything appearing in the developer console of the game?
Yep. I can't figure, how to copy paste text between game and steam, or between any program and steam, for that matter, so here is a screen shot: http://ompldr.org/vaDY5ZA
Messaggio originale di Fred:
Are you running driver 13.1?

AMD Catalyst Display Driver 13.1 is out
Yep. Guess I just have to wait for optimizations or try to mess around with catalyst settings.
i tried steam on linux also but it is just very bad, windows still rules for gaming, no linux for me anymore at the gaming platform
I cant wait for Steam OS so its ready for gaming... Ive been looking for a fix for the slow loading and mouse Lag but always the same answers with the video card drivers and a few other little things that wont do much... Ubuntu is not made for gaming plan and simple it cares more about being open and free (not a bad thing) then having direct hardware acces... I hear there is a build of Linux called crouton that is almost Steam OS.... I have to look into it and get back to this post....
