Gaming PC
Hi. I am new to this forum so sorry if this is posted somewhere where is shouldent(I will get used to here eventully). I have recently got a new PC and I was told that it was a gaming PC by someone that worked where I bought it. I am not completely convinced if it is though. Can a gaming PC expert please do me a favour and tell me if this is a gaming PC or not in the link. Thanks very much(I really hope it is or it will be taken right back). http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/hp-envy-h8-1485ea-desktop-pc-17392849-pdt.html

Yes it is. It has a nice processor, nice amonunt of RAM, and a good video card. You can throw pretty much anything you want at it in gaming.
Thats really good to hear. Thanks very much for the reply. I started to worry a bit when I started to play one of my older games on it(Medal of Honor Pacific Assult to be specific) and I got some screen tear. Any reason for this? Maybe because it is an older game? Thanks again.
Factory systems usually come with older drivers. You might want to see if there are any updates for your video card. Or just reinstalling your system entirely to remove any bloatware that was shipped with the OS.
Where would I check for Video card updates and do you mean to restore my computer to factory settings? Sorry lol. I am crap with computer specs etc
In your case I would just worry about drivers. According to the store page you are running NVidia, so you would need to go to their website and download the latest drivers.
now thats a nice computer it will run everything really mate
Thanks for your help mate. Is the tearing something I should worry about or quite common in older games?
Sometimes. The majority of the time it's usually related to older drivers.
Thanks Ant. I feel a lot better now. I trusted my Dad who knows nothing about computers to sort out a Gaming PC for me lol
Downloading now Tomala. Thanks mate. I would never have known
you are a very lucky guy mate wish i had that sort of money to buy it lol
For my christmas mate. I wouldent be able to afford it either lol
Everything but the video card is good. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 640 is certianly a very low end graphics card. Replace it with something like a GTX 660 or 670 and it will be a pretty good gaming computer. As it stands it is not agood gaming PC. I build gaming computers for a living btw.

Before someone trys to say that card is ok look at this chart.

Also you might need a new PSU with a more powerful GPU. The specs do not list the size of the PSU.

Thanks for your input. I will obviously have to upgrade eventully then.
I have a similar rig but not as powerful.
Here are more detailed specs for your machine[h20000.www2.hp.com]
You only have 1 PCIEx16 slot on that motherboard, which means you will always only be able to use one graphics card. Also, your power supply is 460W, and your cooling is probably limited.

With all this in mind, if you want an enthusiast PC, you will probably want to buy a new graphics card, and a better power supply to support that graphics card. Since a new card will run pretty hot in that case, you will probably want a better main fan.

You should print out that link I provided, and take it to a local PC hardware store. Pick out a good graphics card (I would suggest a 2GB 680) and then get the staff there to help you find a power supply that will fit in your case and have connectors that are compatible with the new graphics card

With my somewhat similar PC I can tell you that my 1GB 7850 runs well on the same PSU that you have, and I can play the almost any game on ultra settings at 1920x1080 and get 30+fps, so if you get a 680(which is better than my graphics card) there won't be a game on the market that you can't put on ultra and get at LEAST 30fps, probably much higher.

Everything else in your computer is fantastic as is. A decent chipset, great processor, USB 3.0, and lots of out-of-the-box functionality.

Now all you have to do is get rid of that wretched Windows 8...:P
