Difference between Radeon HD and mobility Radeon HD graftic cards.
Hello,

I have been looking for the difference between the AMD Radeon HD series and the AMD Mobility Radeon HD series, but i can't find it anywhere.
I want to buy the witcher 2, but you need a ATI Radeon HD3850.
On my laptop, i have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5000series.
However, when I try if i can run this game on canyourunit, it says that my graphic card can't support the game.
That's the part I really don't understand, are the mobility series weaker then the normal Radeon HD series?

Yes, mobile gpus are usually much weaker then the desktop variants, even if they belong to a new generation. In your case it would be interesting which specific Mobility 5000 Series you have.

That's also a problem, when i try to find it, i cant find witch exact number it is, it alwarys says ATI Mobility Raedon HD 5000 series. I've tried several methodes, but i always see 5000 series.

use info from Device Manager - %device% right click -> Properties ->Info -> Hardware ID
PCI\VEN_%digit%&DEV_%digit+letters%&SUBSYS_%digit+letters%&REV_%digit%
than use site like http://www.pcidatabase.com/

or use search and find list where compared Desktop and Mobile chipsets for ATI and nVidia
look on old SPUF or on sites like TechCranch, Tom'sHardware, Guru3D, etc.

Witcher 2 CAN play on a 5000 series mobility...I had 5800s crossfire in my laptop, and it played flawless; there's no reason one cannot run it.

Are your drivers up to date?

http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx
click Notebook products
Under Mobility Radeon graphics click HD5000 series
go from there

The game runs though.

Suikoden: It very depends on WHICH 5000 series you have. A 5100 for example is not capable of running it.

Zero reason why he can play Skyrim and not Witcher 2. Guess we should wait to hear back on which one he is using but 4850 seems to be the recommend for BOTH games (yes, mobility will be weaker, but just comparing apples or apples)

Hey, thx for the help.
I updated my video driver, now it says its an ATI mobility Raedon HD 5740.

I guess you mean 5470. In this case:

Yes, that one.
Still, can you run it keeps saying my video driver is to weak for it, but you only need a ATI Raedon 3xxx for it. Strange...

Maybe this site is not aware of the mobility series.

Well...rather than ask questions about the graphics card, what kind of processor are you running frozo?

Still, 5470 will run the game

My processor (an i5) won't be a problem according to cyri.

This is the old "minimum requirements" vs "real" minimum hardware(!) requirements subject.

Many games run on low spec CPU/GPUs - even on notebooks, as long as you don't try to run a DX10/11-only game on a DX9 chip (mobile or not). HOW good they run, is a different subject.

I still would not turn on Witcher 2's Supersampling feature ... unless you enjoy single digit FPS and a melting laptop lap. Also, running heavy hitting video games on notebooks for endless hours is stressing your hardware - no matter what. Capacitators, CPU, mainboard overheating (without warnings), ... shortens the lifespan of your mobile device.

More recent notebooks and gaming notebooks handle the 100% system usage better, no doubt.
