Steam Update Stuck at 0%
Hi, so I just got a new windows 8 pc and downloaded steam. Steam seemed to install fine but when I launched it, it opened a little windows saying Steam -Updating - 0% complete and it just stays there for a couple of minutes stuck a 0% before exiting itself. I found a few guides which recommended restarting, re-installing, deleting clientregistry.blob, and using the repair tool in the installer. I've tried all of these but nothings working, does anybody know how to fix this?

So I had somebody else take a look at it and fix it for me so I'm not sure exactly what they did. But apparently my internet settings had something like "block peer to peer" turned on (might not be the actual term). So that got turned off and it worked. Sorry that I don't know the step by step but that's what was explained to me

I just started having the same issue... I will get the updating screen at launch and then it will tell me that Steam was unable to connect to the internet. It was working perfectly earlier this morning. I have checks all drivers and made sure my there were no issues with my router and firewall. I'm running out of ideas. Please post here if you have a solution.

I have answer that works!! start steam with -tcp sufix.

Try Launching Steam using TCP
Start Steam with the "-tcp" launch option. Please see the Setting Steam Launch Options topic for instructions.
i had the same problem after downloading windows 8, i fixed it by downloading steam again without deleting it beforehand, a box popped up asking whether i wanted to repair steam or not, i clicked repair and it seems to be working fine now. hope this helps!
