Unredeemable Steam Wallet Card

I received two $20 Steam Wallet Cards for Christmas, and have tried to redeem both of them multiple times. Each time, it says, "An unexpected error has occurred. Your code could not be redeemed at this time." Does anybody know how to fix this?
EDIT: It is now the next morning, my cards have been redeemed. Thanks for the help, I almost returned them, but you convinced me not to.

I have to wonder if it's a problem with the store chain not training their cashiers on how to activate these, or just forgetful cashiers (8+ hours working retail during the holidays)?

No everyone who got their cards at Best Buy are having the same problem. My receipt shows the activation on it. More than likely, it is a problem with the authentication server on Steam's end.

2 20$ cards from Best Buy. Neither one has worked all day. I sorely hope that this gets fixed. I was already peeved that I missed the Portal Combo pack sale because my cards weren't being accepted, but now its 8 hours later and Valve STILL doesn't have this fixed. Never having made a purchase from Steam before, I'm very disappointed with this service.

I missed out on multiple sales because of this. I can't believe Valve hasn't learned their lesson about high traffic and server problems yet. This is a joke.

I've never purchased anything directly from steam either, and I feel the same way.

It isn't just Best Buy, there just seems to be a majority of people who got their's at Best Buy. It's Steam's authentication servers being overloaded. I have one from Best Buy and one from Gamestop and neither work.
