When will steam be back up and functioning normally?

steam has crashed due to so many people attempting to download the steam app becasue of so many new computers, im guessing that caused the servers to crash and now were here, hopefully they can handle it, but it really is disappointing on christmas to not be able to play my games on a new computer

It's weird, I was able to download the steam app and install it but can't log in via the app. Logging onto the forums worked just fine, and it even checked my new laptop and sent the activation code email which arrived in my inbox immediately. I'm sure there are different servers/ports/protocols/whatever between the actual Steam servers and the community servers but this is ridiculous. I know it's Christmas, but you guys need to be more on the ball next year. I'm a tech so I can sympathize, but other customers aren't as forgiving, if this isn't fixed soon you're going to risk losing all that profit from your Christmas sale, etc.

Ok, well I can't speak for others but it looks like Steam app is functional for me as of 30 seconds ago. Whatever you guys did, thank you and have a Merry Christmas.
