Credit Card Expiration Date changing to 2109?

Hi,
Trying to buy things in the winter sale, but everytime I manually enter my credit card details, the expiration date changes to 2109 (which is obviously incorrect).
I type in the number, expiration date and other details, click continue and it automatically changes to this.
I've already contacted Steam support, they've suggested reinstalling (by deleting everything but steam.exe and steamapps) and also checking my saved credit card details (which I don't have, I manually enter it each time).

Any ideas on what the problem is?

You could try using Paypal instead?

Never used paypal, please explain to a total noob like me :)

Can I use visa debit through it...?

You link your debit/credit card to your Paypal account and you can just use the Paypal email and password to pay for things quickly instead of manually entering all of your card details.
