Connection timeout : Dota 2

I'm from Singapore, I started having timeout issues with Steam games when i switched from cable to fibre connection. My ISP now is Starhub Fibreoptics on a D-link (DVG-N5402SP) router and running on win7. I will always timeout from game servers Dota2.

For example on my 1st attempt to connect to a game, i will disconnect, then i will try again and on the 2nd attempt i will be able to enter the game but maybe for about 10 seconds before i have server timeout issues. Then i have to restart the game client and connect to a server again. On the 3rd attempt it may be successful but sometimes i will still timeout again. Thus i have to keep trying till it is stable.

Please help me fix this problem because it is very irritating. I have tried to replace to Linksys N router but it still happens. I suspect is the modem problem. please advise.

Hi, another maxinfinity user with exactly the same issue. Realised my issue is only with wireless connection and direct is fine. Still looking for a fix.

I am having the same problem. Just upgraded to fibre plan today......

Anyone have a solution (other than direct connection with network cable)

i have no solutions yet.. just have to keep reconnecting and hope to get in and play... :(

My steam test are normal, all ports are ok. Likely router issue

none helped. i did firebind and all ports are ok. no issue at all. :/

Hi guys, i solved my problem by casccading a router, also known as wireless bridging. You can call d-link to give you a step by step instructions on how to bridge.

Same problem here, and I tried it when i realised disconnection because of wireless. but it is unreasonable for every gamer to purchase a new router which is proper for bridging.

I think the problem is with starhub, I also cannot play dota1 on garena because of disconnection.
AND this problem only happens in the BEGINNING of the game, in dota1 starting counts and dota2 waiting/selecting heroes.

FYI, I tried reset the router to default, and this problem was no longer exist !!!!! however, i did not keep the insecure setting with no password required.

I solved my problem by using my old router. My VOIP phone line unfortunately is attached to the bugged router so I have to used both routers. If only the VOIP phone line is attached to the fiber modem.....

how do you use both router at the same time?

just connect the lan cable from one to the other....... make sure u connect the lan cable to the in slot of the 2nd router

i tried with another router, but it doesnt seem to work... no internet connection for the 2nd router

thats funny. i just connect mine to the new one and it works. i didnt have to reset or change any setting, and used my old network name and password to get on the network. Did u connect to the correct lan port?

hi, i am suffering from the same issue and i too just changed from Starhub cable to Starhub fibre.

is there any other remedy other than doing a wireless bridging?

i did the firebind test and seems like there is no issues with ports.

yes i am on wireless. connecting a cable gives no issues at all. i am able to play dota without any connection problems. it is only on wireless when i have the problems. :(
