Is validation supposed to take this long?

I've been trying to get TF2 to validate starting about 6 hours. Is that normal?

is there something I can do to help or should I just try to take it out of my library and try to download it again?

Are you validating by verifying the game cache or is it validating when launching the game?

validating when launching the game

though it does say "validating steam cache files ( 0 of 1)
Validating team fortress two file (1 of 1)" which says 100% and has for a while now.

I would cancel that, validate it instead by the game cache and then launch it. Sounds like something got stuck, those validations are normally for the new content system and that only takes a few minutes tops.

If what Hashbrick suggests doesn't work then try going to Steam->Exit at the top left of the client, and restarting Steam - if that does not work try going to Steam->Settings, and in the Download+Cloud tab, switch to a different download region.

Silly question, but how do I do it by game cache?

right click the game in your library, go to properties, click local files tab, verify game cache integrity or something like that.

Well, if it doesn't do it in about an hour (10 minutes after changing the region) then I'm not sure what I'll do. I want to try to re-download it, but I'm not sure how that's done.
