Very Bizzare problem with counter-strike 1.6
ok so I installed counter-strike bought off of steam website, i went to play and I have a very wierd lag. I take a few steps, sputter take a few steps sputter and repeat etc etc... its a constant lag and is very consistent, exact intervals.

I tried reading on a few forums elseware to see if anyone could help me and one suggestion was to go to pcpitstop and do a scan. I did that and it was no big deal, i have other virus/adware protection. The pcpitstop flashed my screen in a kind of wierd way during the scan.

so I go back to play counter-strike having found nothing and tried adjusting video setting to see if that would help. Then Im suddenly getting booted from every server and permanently banned,

after the 4th or 5th server I realized they were banning me for hacking, which i didnt understand at all. I then just tried creating a game and I was running very fast, but no lag. I went back to try a public server and everyone is saying I am speed hacking which I dont understand at all as I never download any kind of hack or patch for the game.

and the lag was there, but I was quickly banned again.

So I know this is wierd and doesnt make sense, trust me it makes no sense what so ever to me either. But some how some way a speed hack got onto my computer, I have no idea how this is possible the only thing I approve or downloaded was the pcpitstop... but sure enough I have a speed hack on my computer.

Is it possible it came from this pcpitstop? the website seems legit, or somehow someone gave it to me from joining a server>? just bought this computer about 1month ago and it was wiped clean and windows reinstalled.

any help is very much appreciated, I really want to play cs, its been about 10yrs...

somehow I need to get rid of this problem and also fix the lag... it doesnt happen in a game i create/offline... I have fast internet, upgraded comcast should be more than fast enough to play the game.. used to play it fine with much worse.

thanks in advance, I know its a long story lol

I just re installed steam and counter-strike, I created a game and I still run super fast so the hack must still be on my computer.

thank you for the quick response, I appreciate the help.. I posted on other forums and never got a response

If this doesn't happen in a game you create, then I'm just going to guess that you're connecting to servers that are across the world from you.

When searching for a server, make sure the PING column is as low as possible. Anything much higher than 150 and you'll start to be bouncing all over the place.

Actually, are you running on an AMD processor?

I asked Steam Support back in early 2009 regarding Half Life 1 running quickly. To my knowledge, CS 1.6 and HL1 use the same engine and sometimes AMD processors aren't too good with it.

The response I got from the Support Tech is as follows. It might be worth a shot!
This issue can occur on some AMD processsors.

Some users have found that downloading and installing the following CPU Optimizer solved this issue.

http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/DCO_1.1.4.zip

You will need to restart your computer after installing this.

EDIT: Just noticed that link doesn't work anymore. Let me take a quick look around for you.

SECOND EDIT: Is your processor a Dual-Core?
If so, give this a try: http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/dynamicDetails.aspx?ListID=c5cd2c08-1432-4756-aafa-4d9dc646342f&ItemID=153
