how to get an xbox 360 controller working for steam

I have a wireless xbox 360 controller and I am trying to figure out a way to get it working for steam games (preferably free). I can connect the controller to my computer via the charging cable but whenever I do that it just connects to my xbox. Thanks for the help.

Unplug the Xbox. But you may need to install the drivers.

pick you OS and download them then install them.

I believe you need to use an Xbox 360 wireless receiver.

Thanks for the help. I had dowloaded the driver previously and tried reinstalling it to see if it would change anything but it's still not working. My computer makes the sound of a new usb device but it doesnt connect to it.

I have a xbox 360 after glow and it works fine.. As you know or atleast should know not all games very few as a matter of fact does not work with controller...

A wireless 360 control will not connect through the USB cable to a computer. You must have a wireless receiver for it.

You should just buy another wired controller because the wireless receiver will probably be the same price. Besides, I prefer the wired controller because it's lighter and more room for your non-thumb fingers without the battery pack.

I use a Microsoft wireless 360 controller. Works fine with games on steam. I just make sure to power it on before loading the game. Otherwise, it may not get recognized.

yeah you can play with the same account. xbox live and windows live is universal
