Device disconnected sound after Steam update
After I installed the big picture update, my computer rythmically makes the bleep of a device disconnecting. I went crazy and started looking what is being disconnected, until I realised that when I exit Steam it stops. And it even continues during a game. It is impossible to play anything anymore. Plus when the sound comes everything momentarilly slows down. Which means that steam has to be closed if I want to do anything leaving out the annoying sound...Steam, seriously??

Hi. Did that. The file is at http://ompldr.org/vZ2xibw/DxDiag.txt
Also, it looks like other people have the same problem too (from a similar post I made)

There is no device doing that. It only makes the disconnecting sound and not the reconnecting. All devices are working properly. This is what drove me crazy at the beginning until I realised it was Steam. It is very very very frustrating. It is imposible to play any game. Plus it momentarily freezes the computer.

Same problem here. In devicemanager it seems to be a HID connecting and reconnecting. Disabeling this device (don't know what the physical device is) resolves the sound being played.

does it also stop the lagging?

In my case MSI P7NGM-digital (nForce730i/GeForce9300) Windows Vista 64 bit, all drivers most recent version.

BIOS is most recent version. All settings standard, no overclock etc.

I'm having the same problem (posted in a different thread) and I think I may have found the cause. My case has a built-in display (Soundgraph LCD) that connects thru an internal USB port. I've found that if I disable that device in device manager it clears the problem. I can even re-enable the device and everything will work until I restart Steam. Not a real solution but at least I can play now. Apparently Steam and the Soundgraph device are not playing nice with each other. Not sure who to blame but it started right after the last Steam update.

Anyway, thought I would share in case it helps anyone.

@rnotman Do the trailers in steam still have sound?
Nosebang Dec 8, 2012 @ 11:40am
Yes, it is an LCD display ( Thermaltake Media LAB ) that couses the problem for me too. Many Thanks. Again sorry for bad english, not my native language.

Yes, trailer sound and everything else seems to work fine. I did notice that the problem starts again when I switch to big picture mode. I have to disable/enable the device to make it work again.
