Steam and Football Manager 2013 with Win7
Recently bought FM13 and had it installed on Win XP without any problems. Uninstalled FM13, upgraded my PC to Win7 and then went for a new install. I'm now being told that there isn't enough space on my PC - there's 226Gb of free space!!

I've emailed Steam support, but haven't had a response in 5 days, which is poor to say the least.

I've tried installing from disc and have also tried copying the entire disc to my hard-drive to re-run it. Each time I get the same error - not enough disc space.

Any thoughts?

Nope, the drive is not full. Over 250Gb of free space.

I think it's Win7 permissions, ie basically, Steam is trying to install Fm13 somewhere to which it doesn't have enough access rights. I'm not quite sure what I need to do under Win7 to give Steam full access to C:\Steam.

That's all I can I can think of.

Another update - i've downloaded another game from steam and didn't have any problems with it.

Therefore, via process of elimination it has to be FM13, running on Win7. Given others don't seem to have a problem with this set-up, I can only assume it's something to do with my set-up and probably linked to Win7 permissions.

n my logs, I can see this:

[2012-12-13 13:58:30] Update job for app 207890 canceled: Failed to preallocate file "C:\Steam\steamapps\downloading\207890\helper.dll" (3758080 bytes) (Not enough disk space)

Hi - Yes, selected Steam.exe, right clicked and selected run as admin. Steam runs and opens. I then navigate within Steam to my account where FM13 is listed and select install.

It tells me FM13 is 5Gb in size and confirms I've got over 250Gb of free space - it then tells me I've not got enough space.

Steam themselves seem to have completely washed their hands of it. Unfortunately, I'm now stuck with a £29 drinks coaster.

Weird - went and checked my support case to see whether steam themselves had added and comment and amazingly, they've close it. No rhyme or reason.

Hi Fred

I tried a few installs. Demo version of FM13 fails with the same error as the full version.

Team Fortress 2 and Frontline Tactics both install without issue.

thanks fred - I did create a post back on the 6th dec, but didn't get much of a response.

I'm having the EXACT same problem, except that I purchased a direct download code only and do not have the DVD - and I have tried many of the above ideas as well. For me, I have identified that the file "helper.dll" (which Kieran also refers to) is being blocked by McAfee as it is blocking auto-run files. Unfortunately, on my laptop I do not have access to change the McAfee settings and so cannot add Steam to the safe list (these settings are maintained elsewhere).

However, it does seem that this particular installation file is not needed for any other download - I was able to successfully install FM2012 yesterday. No problems whatsoever...

Does anyone know if there is a way to by-pass this particular installation file which seems to be tripping against my McAfee protection?

Thanks Andy - it's sort of a relief that it's not just me - I thought I was going mad.

I'm not sure though whether by upgrading Win7, I've also ended up upgrading McAfee. FM13 did work on Windows XP without any issue.

I might be wrong, but I think the DVD only contains Steam and a stub for FM13 - the remainder comes down from Steam.
