Just wondering, I'm trying to complete a badge, one of the achievements is asking to try out an emoticon, I can't seem to find it in chat, would I be assistance?

in chat if you have an emoticon in your inventory such as a sentry emoticon, type in the little phrase it says when you put your mouse over it. for sentry its :setry: and it will put the emoticon in the chat. but you have to own one

Yes, you have to own an emoticon as an item in order to use it.
But you can complete the badge without that achievement, you just have to complete 22 of 26 tasks

Crafting a steam badge with a full set of cards, you receive a random emoticon, background, steam offer and 100 exp.
You can also trade for it or buy it on the market

You need all the cards to the set.

Oh you need to use a special emotion ''icon''
Like you can just craft them when you have enough cards.
