How to connect a controller to play games?

I was trying to use a PS3 controller but couldn't figure out how to get it working. I plugged in the USB and it installed the drivers but it wouldn't work.
How do I get the controller working in games?

The easiest way is just to buy a PS2 controller and a USB adapter for it. Ideally, you'd be best off just buying an Xbox 360 controller with the Windows wireless adapter, as this is the controller most games are being designed around.

I have a PS2 controller, but how would that be different from a PS3 controller playing a game?

Because the PS2 controller doesn't require any drivers or software fiddling. Just plug and play.

You can get the adapters on eBay for like, 3 bucks.

It was never meant to be used on the PC, so you will have issues with it unless you know exactly what you're doing and it really isn't worth the effort.

Again, for a flawless PC controller experience, use the 360 one. Not only is that the controller most games are made for, it is also in my opinion one of the best controllers for any system. I highly recommend it for anyone who has many controller-enabled games.

Well, I tried pinnacle because I read motioninjoy is a pain to uninstall. It connects but none of the buttons/analog sticks work....
Guess Ill have to get a 360 controller.

If you mean the ps2 adapter, I don't think that it would be worth it. I can see many games just not working right with it when a 360 controller would work with most games fine
