Steam Big Picture starts on its own

Having an issue recently where steam big picture just starts on it's own. I dont have to even be sitting at the computer and it will start. I think it may have something to do with plugging in an external controller as the issue just started happening when I decided to play Skyrim again. Previous to this I've never had a problem. Any ideas?

This just happened to me and I came looking to see if anyone else was having the problem. It just randomly started up for me twice in short succession. Ended up killing Steam to prevent it form happening a 3rd time.

Known bug fixed in the latest Steam Client beta update:

General:
Fixed regression causing Big Picture to activate spontaneously under some circumstances
Fixed restoring game backups for Half-Life and Half-Life 2 engine based games
Fixed picking the wrong Steam Library folder for games with dependencies on already installed games

Should REALLY have an option to disable big picture.

Alternatively, you could leave the beta as the bug isn't in the non-beta release.

I've tried both the beta and the non beta. I'm beginning to think it's something with Skyrim and my controller as thats the only time it happens. All told, you should really include an option to disable regardless.

Still no fix? This is happening to me as well -- spontaneous starting on its own. I have a 360 controller plugged in as well. I tried pushing every button on the controller, but nothing manually turns on the Big Picture. It's just random.

veeeeery old topic but it happened to me today...i left my steam opened in normal mode. When i back to home 40 minutes later my steam was in big picture mode on log in screen...weird

I was chilling and my computer screen turned back on and steam opened big picture too. Weirdly enough it also kept to random tho my a too like going into settings and almost selecting steam offline mode and switching between areas. I have a virus blocker so I should be safe so I’m confused. I also didn’t have my controller plugged in.
