Why is Steam ALWAYS losing connection?
Why is Steam ALWAYS losing connection? Regardless of which online game I play (I've tried Black Ops II, Borderlands 2, and Gotham City Impostors: Free-to-play), I can't seem to go more than 5 minutes of gameplay before Steam drops my connection and the match ends early, over and over and over again. And I know it's not on my end because I still have internet when this happens. I am on broadband corded internet.

Valve please fix this, it's extremely frustrating and I'm considering getting my future games on other platforms instead to avoid these issues.

Thanks.

Today Steam was updating but if this happens all the time it is certainly on your end or all of the other 50+ million users would be in here complaining. What you are describing I never see. Just because you can still surf the internet does not mean your internet connection is fine. That is a common misconception. Put a little stress on your router and nic like games do and things can go to hell. Browsing the internet requires very little performance from your NIC or router.

Have you ever updated the firmware in your router? Do you have the newest NIC driver? If your NIC driver that you have installed is from Microsoft and not the manufacturer of the NIC then that is a good place to start. I have seen many computers with issues like yours and I can not stress enough that just because you have internet after getting disconnected from Steam it does not mean it is not on your end.

OK thanks. I already had my router on the most up-to-date firmware, but I'm not sure what NIC driver I'm using, and don't remember which manufacturer it is (it's a custom-built PC), but I already got my sights on getting a new computer anyway so I hope that will fix the issues.
i am having the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ issue! i usually play for 30 secs, then i wait to reconnect for another 30 secs... all over again! the entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game! every single game! how the ♥♥♥♥?! 3 of us are sitting in the same room, using same internet! steam, fix this ♥♥♥♥, it aint fun at all!
Same issue. When I play Counterstrike I get disconnected every few minutes with "steam connection lost" and have to rejoin the game. My internet connection works fine otherwise so it's just Steam.

If it was Steam why is it working for everyone else? Just because you still have internet when you are disconnected does not mean the problem is not on your end. Small outages go un noticed by a browser but a game will disconnect so even though your internet seems fine it is not.

This can be caused by A Faulty NIC, Virus infections, drivers, A router or modem acting up or your ISP. I suggest you start with the NIC driver and a virus scan. Make sure you get the correct NIC driver and not the one from Windows update. I see this time of problem over and over.

Mine just did the same when I was downloading Skyrim, but it's just because Spotify, Google Chrome and Steam and lots of other sh*t is running. Try closing programs that uses your internet.

Clearly it is not working for everyone else. Myself, my sweetie, and two of our friends we play with online also have this same issue. It's not exactly uncommon, just complaining about it on the forums is.

Me too, had this happen many times since the last update...

This happens to me and everyone on my friends list. Its been happening for the past +/-year. Steam will disconnect randomly in the middle of a game. I can't believe this hasn't been fixed yet. How can I enjoy my games and not have to use steam? Also, when I'm in a store, how do I know if a game uses steam so that I don't buy it?
