Check STEAM version

How can i check which steam version i have installed and which one is the latest?

To check for current:
Press Help (up there)
Click 'About Steam'.

To check for latest:
Press Steam (up there)
Click 'Check for Steam Client Updates'.

Edit:
If you mean outside Steam client (I'm not sure how accurate this is, but)

Go to the Steam.exe at C:\Program Files\Steam\
Right mouse click it -> Properties -> Information

I don't know how you can see the latest version available outside the client though.
