Steam Big Picture; Parsing error 187
Whenever I leave big picture mode open for extended periods of time, it always crashes and gives me this error: "Parsing error on steamstyles.css(187): Unknown panel type in style selector: DropDown". Even when I'm in a game for several hours big picture will crash with this error.

Here is a picture of the error (thanks to barto28 on the steam forums)

Does anybody else get this error or know the solution? Please comment below.

These forums suggest that it is definitely a problem with the way ASUS/ASrock motherboards handle overclocking. My motherboard is an ASUS P8P67 B3 Revision, specifically this one: http://www.asus.com/Motherboard/P8P67/

The problem doesn't seem to have anything to do with beta participation.

Motherboards reported with this problem (if you have a motherboard that is not on this list, please comment below and I will add it here):
ASROCK H67M-ITX
ASRock Fatal1ty Z68 Professional Gen3
ASUS m4a78lt
ASUS M4A88 TDV EVO
ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 (not sure if the same as above)
ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO
ASUS M3A78 EM
ASUS P8P67 B3
AsRock H61M-GS
Asus P8H77-I mini-itx (Bios v.1001)
Asus P8B75-M LE (Bios version 0804)
ASUS P6X58D Premium (Latest BIOS 1501)
ASUS GTX660-DC2

Other non-asus/asrock motherboards reported with this problem:
Macbook Pro
Z77A-G43 MSI MS-7758 (v1.x) Mainboard
BIOSTAR A785G3
Gigabyte UD7

[SOLUTIONS]
Here are some proposed solutions to this problem (if you have any elaborations or clarifications please comment below):

I went into the css and de-styled the dropdown (which makes only one widget look off that I'm aware of, the category selector)

The problem may come from the way ASUS motherboards handle Over Clocking.

I attempted the re-install and got nothing. I've heard try to update the BIOS for the MOBO. I'll attempt to do that now.

Edit: I've done it! Updating the BIOS to the latest drivers (Jan, 1, 2012) did the trick, found on ASUS's site. To apply the update (the file you download is a .rom), use the ASUS Update Utility found on the disk your motherboard came with. It will erase any OC'ing that you've done, as it deletes your old BIOS file to update it. ...
N.B. Flashing your BIOS can lead to system failure and I suggest you proceed with caution.

I updated my BIOS but the most recent one is a year old (2105 August 12, 2010). From the looks of it, it does make BPM more stable. ...

After further testing...I think I found the problem. After I updated my BIOS, I reverted my OC settings before I tried BPM. It didn't get fixed so I went back and removed the OC settings and BPM worked flawlessly.

For some reason, OCing by changing the multiplier breaks BPM but changing the bus doesn't affect BPM. ...

i read in another thread that OCing might cause problems with BPM but i couldnt believe that. But now i tried it on my own and set multiplier to auto in bios and BPM worked fine for me too. The issue with the mouse movement disappeared and also the gamepad navigation worked without any issues. ...

I found out that the multiplier is the problem. Setting my overclocking the traditional way, by changing [the Front Side Bus], does not hurt BPM.

Changing the multiplier with AMD's cpu overdrive does not hurt BPM.

[SYMPTOMS]
I would include a list of symptoms related to this error, but there are a lot and I'm not sure that all of them are specifically because of this.

I'm getting the same error, it's been happening for about a week now.

I get this, too. It happens immediately after exiting the game.

I think it happens during the game but you just don't notice it until after you've exited Shashun. I noticed while playing Portal 2 that the mouse cursor was suddenly visible (while using xbox controls). On alt + tab I found that BPM had crashed.

I think this is the case. Also looking for a solution.

I see this constantly — once every few hours when playing games through big picture mode. It's always this exact error, but I haven't yet found out how to reproduce it.

Happens to me too, gets really annoying. This is why I did not try Big Picture while it was on beta but I guess it's still too early to use it.
Same thing happening here quite frequently, on both The Walking Dead and Sleeping Dogs. Never happened during my 30+ hour playthrough of Darksiders 2. Worst thing is your Steam Achievements don't register while you play the game with steam unknowingly crashed in the background.

i get the exact error and it happens when i leave big picture on idle for a while. It started happening with the holiday steam sale and the "snowflake" animated backdrop.
Have no idea how to fix it though....

Still haven't got fixed after last update :(

I have updated this thread with newer relavent information from other threads. I will try to reset my multiplier in bios first, and if that doesn't work I will try updating my bios.

I doesn't have an Asus motherboard and no overcloking neither. But steam is till crashing. This is very anoying. The worst thing is to play for hours without noticing that Steam is crash and lose all the achievements unlocked while it was crashed...

For Christ sake, I specifically waited for Big Picture to go out of Beta before I try it to not be having this. Now it's been several months and Big Picture is still REALLY only good for launching games.
