Windows installer won't allow me to install steam

Basically when I go to install steam on my machine Windows installer appears and says: "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package." I have tried multiple times, downloading it ect ect, I always get this message though.

I have no idea on what to do now because I have never seen this message before. Please help me!

What OS? Have all important updates been done?

Windows 7. I found out how to fix it, so for anyone else having problems what you need to do is make a new user account and use that to install it. I don't know why this works. Also make sure that everything is up to date

If you had to make a new user account the one you are using is hosed up. Either fix it or delete the hosed account.

OMG!!! Yes creating a new account WORKED!!! Thanks a million i was about to through my computer out the window like the guys in that old game fly commercial.
