No sound on steam games

With the internet iTunes youtube my sound is fine but when i try to play a game on steam, i cant hear anything :(

i LITTERALLY tried everything i can think of, i checked audio mixer, checked the sounds setting on control panel, checked sounds on my headset and games (completly maxed, along with my computer valume) but none of it works. but sounds from other sources work

i found a way to fix this problem for me but it is a bit weird, so what i found out that if i start a game with my headphones as my default device in "playback devices" i get no sound. But if i start the game with my speakers as default i get sound. This is where it gets weird so i am getting sound from my speakers then decide to switch the default back to my headphones just to try it out and it works sound back in my headphones for said game. This is only temporary for me and have to do this every time i play said game but w/e works right.

Ive tried uninstalling steam, and downloading sound drivers. I cant hear my Gmod sounds, L4D sounds, Nor HL2 Sounds. ive tried messing with the sound, doesnt work, tried uninstalling the games and reinstalling. didnt work. I think it might be the computer we are using and not the headphones. Im saving up to build my own pc. :P Only option. or maybe you can just buy a new laptop :P

Ok... so I have googled "Why do I not have sound in my Steam games" --- "No Sound in my Steam Game" ---- and likewise a few others ..... and it seems that this is an ongoing issue that spans back many years. The games vary (CounterStrike, Long Dark, etc.) and yet the issue always seems to be the exact same --- something caused the sound files to not play.

COME ON STEAM!!!! recognize the issue and find a fix for it.

Kind of hard to play Long Dark when you can't hear the wolves coming up on you!!!!

I have no idea how it was fixed. The sound was gone for nearly 2 weeks and I simply stopped playing the game. When I came back the sound was there, for no apparent reason.

I have the same problem, there is not sound in game, but on anything else that is not on steam I have sound on it, all of my sound settings are either on, or on the max setting, I have the headset set as my default and on the sound mixer my sound is up, I have a wireless headset, and I am running the latest software on it, I have windows 10, if someone could help that would be really helpful. thank you :)

I am having trouble hearing the sound in To The Moon, yet the rest of my sound works fine.

Maybe too late, but what fixed it for me was: In Steam, File, Settings, Voice, click "Detect audio devices" :)
