Dropping to the taskbar :: Help and Tips

1. Do you have skype open?
2. Do you have steam overlay on?
3. Does this happen to all your steam games or just a selected few?

The icon thing is just your desktop refreshing, occurs also if you right click on desktop and click refresh. Nothing to be worried about!

Are you running Steam in compatibility mode or anything like that? The icon refresh thing sounds like Aero being re-enabled.

Strangely, for the past week or two, i've also had this issue.

Game playing through happily as anything and suddenly it's minimised itself to the taskbar. I can go back to it easily enough, but it has also started happening to me.

It took about 5 mins to post this. My computer is acting so slow. Nothing in the task manager except steam. This has been happening off and on for awhile. Even when steam isn't even running. It happened this morning too. Things drop down to the task manager with any game I run.

This list is entirely empty when you install Windows fresh, to give you an idea of how much you can get rid off on there.

However, a hefty chunk of this person's list is Microsoft updates to MS Office, .Net framework and etc.

It's also worth noting that quite a bit of this list are games, too.

That's not to say you shouldn't uninstall programs you don't see yourself using again, but the list isn't as "Bad" as it first looks!

The list of programs is hefty and I should clean some things I have that I don't use anymore, but the problem remains: Games drop to taskbar. Something is also slowing this computer down. As I write this the computer freezes up as I type. I wait a few seconds and it comes back. I can hear the hard drive working. There aren't any processes in the task manager. Antivirus comes back clean. I have no idea what to do.

I've spent the last two weeks trying to fix this problem. One thing led to another. I've spent more time on bleeping computer than I ever have in my entire life. I had some viruses and registry problems. Bad times were had by all.
