Hey I got this error too for no reason...I tried everything...repair...re-install...uninstalls and nothing. Still will not update either. I am running on windows 7 ulti. I made a ticket and sent it to steam so if they say anything I will post it here. If anybody else can help post it please. I removed all my files...everything even the steam apps...did a clean install from the site and it still will not work. I do NOT have a firewall and i have amazing internet.

Are you in any particular location like a campus? Or are you trying to run this from home? A lot of ports via UDP are blocked, which are required by Steam.

What protection software do you have installed, and who is your Internet service provider?

mm, i only got windows firewall, and ive turned it off for steam. and i have no idea how to answer the others on, im a girl and i suck at internet stuff xD oh and im trying to run this from home

Who is in charge of your network setup within your home? One of your siblings? Your parents? Or does nobody really deal with it and resort to calling a support line when issues occur?

oh i think its my dad, but we do call support lines too

Many game ports are blocked within your network configuration. Most likely by your router, and not by your notebook, as you are just running Windows Firewall.

You will have to let your father know you are unable to use Steam because of this. If he might be a little bit technically informed, you can show him the Firebind Steam Test result page.

he knows nothing about internet tbh, and he wont be home for three weeks because of holiday, so i dont know what to do then
