How Do I Open Garry's Mod?

I want to play GMod, but when I try to open it it redirects me to some stupid Windows program the game claims I need to download. So I downloaded the damn thing, but still nothing. WTF?

I tried to, but my computer blocked it.

Your computer didn't, software you have installed blocked it. Probably third party anti-virus and/or firewall.

Allow the file to run. It will start downloading Direct X files and then perform the installation.

I'm doing that as we speak, I think I finally got it.

Also, why is it we were able to send stuff to outer space back in the 50s, and yet, a half century later, we're having problems running a freaking game?
