My Origin.exe is under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin", and my game is under "D:\Origin Games\Need for Speed"
So I put "D:\Origin Games\Need for Speed\" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin\Origin.exe" in the start box , and i cant save the shortcut like that because of the error.
For me, Steam's in-game overlay has worked in Origin -games by me simply disabling Origin's in-game overlay under the Origin -client. [Origin > Application Settings > Origin In-Game]
Then just add the game's executable as a non-Steam -game. Close the Origin -client (so it shuts down and doesn't show up on the bottom right), and launch the game's executable from Steam.
You can alternatively add Origin's shortcut with the game's browser protocol as its launch argument under Steam's [Set Launch Options] -menu (or as expansion to the Target -field), but you'll have to use Inspect Element on the appropriate game's store -page to really figure out its ID.

yea figured out a work around, has it´s benefits to be a programmer ^_^
However, I got mine to work by simply doing as everyone said. Go into Origin, Disable in-game overlay and the setting to "Automatically open Origin after game", quitting/closing out Origin entirely, then going to Steam and launching the game from Steam.
I found a way to do add an my origin games to my steam library, and I dont need to have it installed.
this is how its done:
go to origin game library online: https://www.origin.com/usa/en-us/game-library
then pick a game, you will see a code in your url something like OFB-EAST:109547519
for example here the url i get when i pick command an conquer 3
https://www.origin.com/usa/en-us/game-library/ogd/OFB-EAST:52210/friends-who-play
so i copy the code OFB-EAST:52210 and to openit in origun add this url before the code origin://LaunchGame/[game-code]
now i add the shortcut on steam,
go to add a non steam game,
then chose a random program,
locate the program in your library,
change the corresponding values,
Here is an example:
Title:
Command & Conquer™ 3 Tiberium Wars™ and Kane’s Wrath
Target:
origin://LaunchGame/OFB-EAST:52210
thats it, now look for the thumbnail for the game and done!
Under the Target field, I put the path to origin.exe BEFORE the path that is already present. ( It is necessary to leave a space between quotation marks, ...origin.exe" "C:\Program FIles...)
This starts origin alone, and then you have to use origin to choose your game, but with this method when I press the steam button my overlay works, which I cannot get to work with the provided method.
- Go to Origin Application Settings > Origin In-Game > Turn it Off
- Close Origin
- Rightclick Origin Tray Icon and "Quit Origin"
^ This step is important! Unless Origin is completely shut down and restartet including the tray agent the overlay setting won't be applied.
- Go to Steam Library > Add non-Steam Game
- Navigate to .exe file of desired game
- Done
Just tested with Dead Space 3. Steam overlay works and friendslist reports me playing DS3.
Some people have got it to work by using the game's browser protocol as Origin's launch argument; and apparently the guy above did "Origin path" "Game path" in the target field.
