How do you use backup files to restore games?
I finnaly got GTA IV to work, but at one point, I played the game, and as soon as I walked out of my house I started flying up into the air, and then the whole map of Liberty City dissappeared. This due to a bunch of modding.

Luckily, prior to modding, I took the time to read the instructions and to back upmy game.

The only problem is, that I don't know how to restore it. I went into the backup files and it's all a bunch of folders saying Disk 1, Disk 2, Disk 3 and so on up to 17!

I have checked other forums, which have been no help. Even when I checked the instructions on steam, it said something about when you insert the disk it will automatically start running and restore.

Was I supposed to put the backup files on a disk?

I don't really want to use another 15 gb of internet usage just to reinstall it, so please give me a step by step of how to restore it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Open Steam client. In the "Steam" menu there's a "Backup and Restore games..." option. Click it and check the "Restore a previous backup button. Click "Next" and insert the parent folder where all the "Disk x" folders are located.
It should identify the game and ask you if you want to proceed.

Personally I woud stick with copying the steamapps folder and be done with it. The backup program is good for only a few things

1) DVD spannign archives
2) Compression

Given that hard drives and even usb sticks are given away in cracker jack boxes and cereals, you're far better off just copying the steamapps folder instead to another drive. The need to span DVDs and compression simply isn't necessary.
