Have you installed directx from Microsoft? Download Directx from Microsoft and install it manually.

To be honest it sounds like youre entire directx install is fried. Steam is just using a WMI call to determine the version and it's barfing. You may either want to reinstall dreictx. Or you may have to do a system restore because something is screwed up with your entire system.

So I know this post was ages ago, but I just had the same problem. I restarted my computer and it fixed everything. Might work for other people who read this thread, before attempting a system restore.

Could you send me the update you downloaded? I am having the exact same problem that you had and am having a really hard time trying to fix it. :) Thanks!!!

So I am now having this issue. Can someone tell me the correct solution that doesn't involve a system restore? if so, THANKS

I have solved this problem now, when i installed dayz i had to download a dirext x runtime update as mine was outdated.

How do you update it? My friend is having the same problem.

I fixed it completely by accident as i downloaded a game that came with an update for diect x. In this case just uninstall direct x and reinstall it.

if not do the same for C++
