"Unknown Error" occurs when attempting to install any game.

Just what it says in the title: whenever I try to install a game, it says "An error occurred when installing (game): Unknown Error". The Steam support page it links me to says "The specified article does not exist or you do not have permission to view it." I can't seem to find any advice for this specific problem on the Internet; can you help?

I am also having this error. I tried deleting the cache like people have suggested, verifying files (which resulted in it saying some were encrypted) and finally removed and reinstalled Skyrim and other games doing this, and reinstalling steam. Now the error won't let me even install these games.

So I uninstalled all the games causing this issue, as well as steam, reinstalled steam, and it magically allowed me to install Skyrim and the other games giving me the same error :/ I still have no idea what the problem was though. I dunno I guess attempt try uninstalling the games?

is it all the games that are a problem? I know I had Skyrim and Bastion just that I knew of giving me the error, though I only uninstalled Skyrim and then Bastion fixed itself too..sooo I'm really not sure.

I have this problem when trying to install Super Meat Boy and Dota 2. It's only started happening recently as I had Super Meat Boy installed on a previous occasion. I've tried restarting Steam, my computer, deleting files, uninstalling games etc but nothing's worked. :(

Nevermind I uninstalled steam and all my games and now it works. Probably not the best way to fix it seeing I have to reinstall 50 games but I can play my new games now woo :S?

It seems that everyone who does manage to solve it doesn't know how it happens. Which is weird. It's been somewhere along the reinstalling method.

I've had this exact problem as many have but for me i have games that need to be updated in order to play. when i try to update them it shows me the box with the unknown error and as many i have games i want to install and play but it tells me the same thing every time plz plz help me!!!!!
