New to Steam - Can my laptop run " Tomb Raider " ? . . .
Just recently got into SimCity again but we won't go there ¬_¬ too much hassle . . .

However with the free game i recieved Dead Space 3 I thought well it's free if it runs it runs , if not well it was free so what . . . turns out my laptop runs DS3 well . . . graphics spot on and frame rate no lag !

I decided to get Steam as well and download "Binary Domain" which is running pretty well also. Runs smoothly however only once now and then during boss battles the Frame rate may drop slightly.

So does my laptop run " Tomb Raider " ?

It's an ASUSX35E Series bought just over a year ago brand new!

Windows 7 Premium

6GD RAM

750HDD

intel Core i5-2430M, 2.4GHz

I have an Intel(R) HD Family Graphics card i think ? =/

if any more specification people need let me know . . .

as you know i'm not exactly hard core PC gamer but it's surprising to find out how well my laptop is running games i thought it never could.

Also i dont mind if graphics for " Tomb Raider " aren't top notch just looking to play through it nicely and pretty smoothly and enjoy it (Y)

Any help much appreciated

CHEERS !

JH =)

You would need to turn all the graphics settings right down, even then it doesn't say that Intel's IGP's are supported so it may not even work at all. Likely it will function, but would be quite slow.
With integrated graphics you'll need to run it on low.

The system is there, but it really does depend on the card.It looks like a fun game!

My friend plays tomb raider on a much older laptop than yours just fine.

Wow ! Quick response I really do appreciate all your comments =) , so pretty much i can expect the game to run quite smooth with the high RAM but turn all quality down to low ?

As my graphics card is not up to much ? Can these laptops be upgraded ? Cheaply graphics cards wise ? (as my laptop was bought as a bog standard one for Uni/Entertainment/Speed a yr ago) I wasn't expecting much graphics wise , so im pretty surprised , definately got me hooked on something here =)

Not really. It's good for web surfing and studies, but not much else. I would suggest The ASUS ROG G74 or 75 if you're interested in a gaming laptop. The ROG series have built in dedicated graphics cards that will handle Tomb Raider (and other games) quite nicely.

Even with the quality set to low it will probably lag a lot. You cannot upgrade graphics hardware on laptops at all.
Age doesn't factor into how well it would run. Your laptop does not have a discrete GPU card.

Thanks =) . . . Exactly my thoughts =/ . . . looks like i will still give it a try even though it's probably going to be an EPIC FAIL but it's in sale atm (£22 Square Enix Store) and worst case (unplayable) i'll have to upgrade my graphics card soon somehow on the laptop (is this cheap?)

Appreciate your comments , (Y)

Video of it running with the HD3000 with most settings off, but some turned up higher. It looks like the author has spent their time choosing the best compromise between quality and performance, so it might be worth watching and checking which settings they go for. They get about 20-30 FPS but it stutters quite bad.

Save yourself a ton of cash and get a desktop for gaming. The premium you pay for a laptop formfactor that is "gaming capable" is horrendous.
