Can't get brand new game to open?
I literally downloaded the Sims Medieval like 3 hours ago. It's my first game I've ever digitally downloaded, because I've always been skeptical (and this situation is proving me right). I waited for it to finish downloading for 2 hours and tried to play it. I received the error message "Cannot run game (app already running)". THE GAME ISN'T RUNNING ANYWHERE! I've deleted the appache file, exited Steam completely, and restarted my computer... Nothing. I just want to play my game. I wasted $30 bucks for something I can't even use. I've emailed the support team and I still haven't gotten a response back. I'm close to demanding for my money back, this is ridiculous. Does anyone have any solutions on how to fix this so I can actually enjoy my purchase? And if not, is there a way I can get a refund?

Try running Steam as administrator, Right click -> run as administrator assuming you are on windows.

I've also tried that. Nothing changed. /:
I clicked "play" and nothing ever came up, so I clicked it again and the error message came up saying that it was already running.
And yes, I do have Windows. I have Windows 8, so I'm hoping that doesn't cause any issues.

maybe you have the same problems like many other users --> at the moment noone who bought Magic: The Gathering can play, because we dont can download the game -> this happend 9 hours ago :) until --> no life sign from support or someone else
I just went to the forum for the Sims Medieval, and someone posted that it doesn't work for Windows 8 at all.... That's great. I just wasted money and there's no way I can play it. I'm pretty pissed off. I want a refund. I tried registering my game key code on Origin, and that didn't work, so at this point I'm really stuck. The money I used to pay for this wasn't even mine, so it makes it worse. Wtf.
I definitely won't be buying anything from Steam ever again. Now I have to explain to my family that the money they loaned me for this is now sitting in Steam's bank account and I am left with nothing. Woo.

Thanks Steam. \m/
That's not Steam that's EA, blame EA for this one. Steam just sells, EA devloped it, go complain to them so they make a patch for it.

Also if you read the system requirements:
OS: Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7, with the latest Service Pack

Well they're the ones selling it, they should've posted some kind of disclaimer. I have plenty of other EA games, they all work fine on my computer. That's why I don't understand what the difference is with this one.

It's a good thing that I have a desktop computer in my house with Windows Vista, because there was no way it was going to work on my Windows 8 laptop... Which really bothers me, because if I move or something, I can't take this computer with me. So my game would just be here and I couldn't play it. I worked for hours trying to get it to work on my laptop. I can't believe how complicated this whole process was.

Again it was only complicated because you never read the system requirements, that is the first thing to do for any game specially when you own a new OS that has yet to publish a service pack.
