Setting up Big Screen
Where are detailed instructions? Do I need a USB to HDMI and if so, how long can I go with one about 25 to 30 ft? Can I use ethernet cable from router to TV or can I go from XBox 369 to HDMI? My TV hooks to my home network as well accepting video, sound, pics, etc by ethernet and/or built-in Wi-Fi. Need best options for my situation which is 25 to 30 ft from my computer or router, or doesn't matter if I can use WiFil or home Network. Any advise greatly appreaciated!

both my comp and xbox are hooked up to the tv,. I linked my comp to the ethernet, as well as the xbox and run external speakers from the tv, so that I don't have to keep switching the audio plug. (this only gives me audio lag for rocksmith, which I'm then forced to run audio direct from source)

My computer runs hdmi dirct to tv, and xbox has it's own hdmi cable as well. I have a smart tv by samsung, but I rarely hook the ethernet cable to it, just for updates. My computer can do anything my tv can do 100x better.

I connect direct whenever possible, since wireless will always have a higher resistance rating. It's nice and convienient, but it isn't as high quality. My mouse, keyboard and remotes are all wireless, but quality of signal there doesn't matter, just as long as there is a signal

HDMI does give you the best quality in both sound and video, but I'm not sure if my PC has a HDMI out. I do see an out next to the USB 2's and 3's that looks much like USB, only slightly bigger. Right now I don't have an HDMI connector to test it and the cable I'd need to get from my PC to my 60 in big screen would be about 20 ft and costs $45! I gotta be sure before I buy. But also, my TV has a seperate PC in, and it has WiFi and home Netword. Right now I can access and play videos in HD on my TV that are sitting on my hard drive. It gets the dignal over the Home network Wi-Fi system and that would seem to mean that there should be a way to do the same with Steam? It's confusing cause there are no real setup instruction for the BigTV app. Steam needs to write some instructions!

Any difference between hdmi and the typical monitor cable (quality wise)?
VGA is analog, so on larger screens it loses clarity. DVI (Digital Video Interface) and HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) carry same video quality, but HDMI carries audio as well. My PC carries all three options, and has become the standard, more or less, these days. The slightly larger one next to my usb ports are sata ports. Serial ATA (SATA) ports are used for mass data storage units or optical drives.

My smart TV can access things like facebook, twitter, etc because of apps and a browser function. Still is better run off of computer (mines a 42" led samsung smart tv.)

If you hook up your comp to the screen, then all the extras your tv can do are moot. You can get the same or better quality image from your comp at higher speeds, thanks to more processing power to handle it.

Aslo connecting from your Graphics card instead of the motherboard will ensure the maximum quality signal available to you from your computer.

P.S. When watching shows, in windows at least, make sure to click the little button in the bottom right corner, or pressing alt+enter, on the media player to maximize and have the player functions go invisible, then it looks no difference than Cable/Satalite... well minus commercials and you can watch it whenever you want....

You can also allow the xbox to access your computer by permitting it on your local netwrok (for your computer, not internet) and allowing it access to your shared folders. Works for both music and videos without cluttering up the tiny hardrive in the xbox.

I've had multiple roomates before, and everyone had thier own tv in thier room, plus the main in the living room. We all had xboxs (it would work with ps3, too) and all were hooked to the internet, so we allowed access to the media folder and everyone could watch or listened to anything on the computer at thier leisure. Plus your roomates try hard not to piss you off in order to keep that little 'privledge'.

after being awake for the last 40 hours, I'm headed to bed. (Little more disturbing that I can still go for at least another five hours easy. Friends and family always thought I was on drugs till the day I smoked weed. On that day they thought I quit doing drugs.....)

Thanx for replying! If I use the second monitor outlet on my Nvidia graphics card, which I'm assuming is DVI, it will run on my computer's flat screen as well right? And the sound will still come out of my computer speakers or my amp which is connected to my sound card, right? Now assuming all this is true, is there a DVI to HDMI or would I use DVI to my TV's PC input? I've got a 60 in Sharp smart TV w/Wi-FI, but it doesn't have a browser...not a problem as I can get internet access via my XBox 360 from Comcast.
