Well, the second game is one of the best RPGs as far as I'm concerned. If you like the genre and want to spend as little as possible just get that one.
The first game is (naturally) more basic, both gameplay and story wise. And the third one is a bit buggy and overall rushed (the ending is more or less a cliffhanger, for instance). They are both enjoyable games but simply don't reach the same quality as Gothic 2. Can't really go wrong considering the price, though.

Yea I had to set my compatiblilty settings but gothic one does play =)

I played the gothic series years ago, but the one thing that I didn't like was that the games didn't import to each other. If they did that would've been great but apparently the do import so maybe it was my Vista bugging the game?

I don't think that gothic 1,2 or 3 imports the new gothics do but I am not so sure about the Origionals
