Can I play a game that needs 2.8 GHz on my 2.3GHz laptop?
Hi, I want to play Diablo 3 on my laptop but the game needs some serious system requirements. My laptop plays Skyrim without problem but Skyrim only needs 2GHz. If anything it's pretty damm quick, way faster than our desktop. It has a core i7 wich runs pretty smooth. i know that you can modify your game a bit so it can run but frankly I don't know much about it.

So I was wondering if somebody coud help me? I would really appreciate it.

Without question it will run the game. 2.8GHz refers to a single core processor, 2.4GHz is recommended if you have a dual core processor. You have a quad core processor at 2.3GHz so there should be no issue there. :)

Thank you :)
I just wanted to be sure. Thank you again.

Um one thing, you graphics card might not be good enough. Your CPU is certainly good enough but the GT 635M graphics card sucks. So if it's not running well then you know the graphics card is the problem and that is why you have to run low settings, resolutions or can't run.

You can probably NOT upgrade your laptop graphics card.

You can build a pretty cheap desktop that will do it nicely AND be completely able to upgrade again in the future. Here are some examples:

Super cheap, will do for now, not future proof & GPU likely can't keep up with new PS4 / XB1 consoles. On the bright side though it is totally easy to upgrade and as soon as something falls short you can get it back up on top for a few $100 at most. Hint: first upgrade is likely GPU. This has a GPU at least 2 times better than your laptop GPU.

Good for now, *probably* as-good-as or better-than the new consoles & can upgrade. Also can be overclocked.

Really nice for now & later. Significantly superior to the new consoles in hardware tech. Also can be overclocked.

Haha I think you know you that you just showed me a glimpse of heaven ;)

However I fear I just don't have the skills to put one together. I'm thinking of begging my wizz kid nephew but I'm still going to need him in the future and this may be a big thing to ask :)
The price is quite a temptation too, considering I live in Europe. $550 = €400 .... sweet
I couldn't buy an iPhone for that and frankly even if I could I wouldn't even think about it.
Shipping may be a little bit more but still ... a good deal

You do however have a good point with the comparison with the next generation consoles.
If I would do it I would definately go for bigger and better than the consoles. I have always been a console girl but since having a "decent" pc I really get the die hard pc gamers :)

It's very tempting and I'm definately going to sleep over it
Anyway thanks for the extensive advise :)

You was looking at the old P4, which GHz wise the actual processing speed of a P4 compared to an i7 does not correlate. 2.0 Ghz i7 is a lot faster then a 2.0 Ghz P4. Also for recommended they are saying 2.4GHz core 2 Duo. An i7 2.4 GHz is faster then a core 2 Duo of the same speed.

"Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 5600+ 2.8 GHz"

I strongly recommend building your own. Remember in your budget you may also need such things as a keyboard, mouse, monitor, Windows 8 64bit, speakers, Wifi USB dongle, TV tuner card and so on. The builds I posted are tower only, no OS.

It does not take any special skills to build a computer. It's like building a model toy, anyone can do it. Most better motherboards should come with some sort of instruction manual which should explain how to install all the other parts. Beware sometimes manuals are wrong or not accurate. It's still easy enough to figure out on your own like a puzzle.

If you can do a jigsay puzzle you can build a computer. Budget at least one full day on the weekend and you may get it done with time to spare even if you are slow like me.

MIN NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800 GT or ATI Radeon™ X1950 Pro or better

REC "NVIDIA® GeForce® 260 or ATI Radeon™ HD 4870 or better

I agree with the video card being on the week side but this game does not take a lot to run. His card is much better than min and almost as good as recommended. It's not like this is a new game. Pretty low specs actually.
