PS3 Controller issue with Windows 8.1
Has anyone experienced/fixed any issues with their PS3 controller in Windows 8.1?

From Windows 7 to Windows 8, I've had no issue of using a PS3 controller via (offline) Motion In Joy.

I updated to Windows 8.1, and Windows doesn't recognize the drivers and manufacturers when it's plugged in. "PS3 controller" shows up in "Devices and Printers" as well as Device Manager, but it doesn't connect. Also, Motion In Joy and Better DS3 were unable to recognize my Bluetooth USB receiver.

Again, the PS3 controller and bluetooth receiver worked perfectly before Windows 8.1 upgrade.

Any advice?

Its an easy fix, go to device manager, human interface devices, hdi compliant game controller, properties, disable, replug in ps3 controller while its DISABLED and it works perfectly, I have no technical explanation but it does the trick.

DO NOT INSTALL MOTIONINJOY , it's a Chinese Trojan.

If you must use a PS3 controller, use Scarlett's PS3 Drivers, it isn't a virus and works much better than Motion in joy, no need to install the drivers all the time; only once and you're good to go.

I used this, it works far better than ds3 and is much simpler to install. Have Fun :)

Also having issues with the PS3 controller on windows 8.1:

It seems that after the HID game-controller driver is automatically installed, the controller stops charging, and is not detected by motion in joy.

If the driver is disabled then the controller starts charging BUT is still not detected by the software and cannot be used... :s

Update: I've tried the technique posted here where you manually install the motion in joy driver for the controller and then use Better DS3.
Controller is charging when plugged in BUT is not being detected by better DS3

I have this exact problem with Windows 8.1. Better DS3 doesn't recognize controller. In Windows 7 it worked fine and no going back to 7 isn't an option, because my other things just works better in 8.1 as crazy it might sound. Just need to get this controller to work in 8.1.

So I'm having a somewhat similar issue, Windows 7 64bit
I'm familiar with motioninjoy and such, and I even got it working earlier in the day (I even have a new USB cord that I bought today and it was working completely fine), but I come back to my computer from dinner and boot it up to notice that Windows has completely forgotten what a PS3 controller is. I tried checking motioninjoy (about 10 times just to be sure, and yes I've read through this thread and I'm not going to be using it anymore, but I don't think MotioninJoy is the issue this time), nothing. I tried hoping that windows would find the driver on its own, nothing. I tried restarting a few times, nothing. I even tried checking my controller at every single USB port both front and back, triple checking just to be sure, nothing. I tried a different controller, nothing. I try hitting the reset button a few times, nothing. I try multiple combinations of these (restarting and resetting, resetting and unplugging, etc.), nothing. All I get is an Unknown Device and a missing PS3 Controller from Devices and printers (https://imgur.com/UGnHRtA).

I did try them again on my PS3 but to no avail. They're both disconnected from my PS3. They both just stopped working so suddenly. I know it's not the computer since they've worked before and I know it's not the new cord because it was working not but 3 hours ago. The only thing left is my controllers just both decided to give up at the same time, but I've never had a controller die on me in 12 years, so I don't know if that's it or not.

Oh, and neither my PS3 nor my computer are charging the controllers.

Is this really the best we can get !? Hack your Windows with not 3rd party drivers that are known to include malware then buy a BT dongle that will be used exclusively for the controller!? Oh, and if you want to charge the controller, you have to hack the HID drivers and use a second USB port!?

SONY, seriously, get your ♥♥♥♥ together and provide proper drivers, don't you have enough money to throw at that?

Ok so instead of using the controllers that I am used to and like, I have to throw them in the garbage bin, still perfectly working, and go buy some iffy stuff... Great...

Any good alternative out there? Please don't mention the XBox controller, I want a twin stick controller...
PS4 controller works on PC out of the box.

I have windows 8.1 and had a lot of problems with MotioninJoy, in fact I couldn't figure a way to recognize my controller. Now I'm using a program Xpadder, google it and it will work on every game on steam. What the program does is associate the keyboard buttons with the controller, it's very easy to configure. You may have to create an association for each game you play, but still a much easier way in my opinion. And it's working on windows 8.1. Hope it helps...
