Its an easy fix, go to device manager, human interface devices, hdi compliant game controller, properties, disable, replug in ps3 controller while its DISABLED and it works perfectly, I have no technical explanation but it does the trick.
If you must use a PS3 controller, use Scarlett's PS3 Drivers, it isn't a virus and works much better than Motion in joy, no need to install the drivers all the time; only once and you're good to go.
I used this, it works far better than ds3 and is much simpler to install. Have Fun :)
It seems that after the HID game-controller driver is automatically installed, the controller stops charging, and is not detected by motion in joy.
If the driver is disabled then the controller starts charging BUT is still not detected by the software and cannot be used... :s
Update: I've tried the technique posted here where you manually install the motion in joy driver for the controller and then use Better DS3.
Controller is charging when plugged in BUT is not being detected by better DS3
Amazing, this actually ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ worked! In WINDOWS 8.1!
I'm familiar with motioninjoy and such, and I even got it working earlier in the day (I even have a new USB cord that I bought today and it was working completely fine), but I come back to my computer from dinner and boot it up to notice that Windows has completely forgotten what a PS3 controller is. I tried checking motioninjoy (about 10 times just to be sure, and yes I've read through this thread and I'm not going to be using it anymore, but I don't think MotioninJoy is the issue this time), nothing. I tried hoping that windows would find the driver on its own, nothing. I tried restarting a few times, nothing. I even tried checking my controller at every single USB port both front and back, triple checking just to be sure, nothing. I tried a different controller, nothing. I try hitting the reset button a few times, nothing. I try multiple combinations of these (restarting and resetting, resetting and unplugging, etc.), nothing. All I get is an Unknown Device and a missing PS3 Controller from Devices and printers (https://imgur.com/UGnHRtA).
I did try them again on my PS3 but to no avail. They're both disconnected from my PS3. They both just stopped working so suddenly. I know it's not the computer since they've worked before and I know it's not the new cord because it was working not but 3 hours ago. The only thing left is my controllers just both decided to give up at the same time, but I've never had a controller die on me in 12 years, so I don't know if that's it or not.
SONY, seriously, get your ♥♥♥♥ together and provide proper drivers, don't you have enough money to throw at that?
Ok so instead of using the controllers that I am used to and like, I have to throw them in the garbage bin, still perfectly working, and go buy some iffy stuff... Great...
Any good alternative out there? Please don't mention the XBox controller, I want a twin stick controller...
