Steam account name not available
A friend of mine wanted to create an account, but his name of choice is supposedly not available. I've done a search and couldn't find a profile with that name nor was the profile page available which kinda sounds fishy to me.

I know, it's 'just' a name and he can still change it ingame, but he really wants to stick to his name of choice if possible.

What I would like to know is what might cause this error.

Account names and profile names are not the same thing. Just because there isn't a profile by that name doesn't mean there isn't an account using it.
