Get a game with different language/from a different region?
Hello,
I wanna get Max Payne 2 but the game doesn't have the English language, only the language of my country. Is there a way to download the game from a different region, like with a VPN or something? Am I allowed to do that?

In the settings, there should be a "change language" option, no need to download the game again.

I have not yet downloaded the game, but it says "this game is only available in German" which is complete bs. I wanna know if I can get the English version.

Oh, I see. Well you can change the download region, in the Steam client, top left there's "Steam", from the drop menu choose "Settings", and choose the "Download" tab, there's the option to change the region. Not sure if that will change the language though.

If the game is region restricted and only contains german language. You'll only be able to download it on german.

It's a common feature for region restricted games to only include the language of that region (Specially Russian restricted copies)

Why do they make it region restricted? Doesn't make sense.

If I went to the UK or simply used a VPN, could I then download it in English?

No, you can't.

If you have something that says it's the german version, on Steam, then you have the german version. Those "low violence" versions are actually different from the international version -- don't ask me about the technical details, but it's basically two distinct games that somehow share the shop page.

The game in your library doesn't change, no matter where you download it. You would have to actually buy the full version elsewhere -- unfortunately, the obvious way to just buy at Steam UK or something like that doesn't work, since Steam only lets you buy in your own country.

Buying the game from a third party shop ioutside germany, such as greenmangaming, will give you the full version -- again, it doesn't matter where you download it, it will always be the full version.

As such, it really does work like DVDs. I used to order games from Amazon UK (I'm in germany too), and these don't turn into german language and "low violence" when I play them here :-) Likewise, if you buy the german version on Steam then you have the german version, and if you buy the full version then you have the full version.

It's not a low violence version, it just says it's German language only.

So if I should just buy it from Greenmangaming? If that works, I'll do that of course.
