Windows 8.1 Steam Crash
This is really frustrating, so here's my problem:

I've installed Windows 8.1 Pro x64 on my laptop and I've also installed Steam. Steam installation goes normal, then the client starts to update itself (about 100MB update) and opens normally. Then I go into my library, click "Install" CS:GO (my only game) it starts, but crashes when it wants to (don't remember exact words) "Occupy free space".

Afterwards when I start Steam it comes to "Connecting steam account: Romanowskiy" and instantly crashes with no warnings.

What I've tried to solve this problem, but NONE of those work:

- reinstalling Steam (again, everything is fine till I decide to download CS:GO or close it and start Steam again) // also following the official Steam guide: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3134-TIAL-4638
- deleting ClientRegistry.blob
- deleting SteamUI.dll
- deleting everything except SteamApps and Steam.exe
- deleting Steam and cleaning any registry keys and/or files left behind
- uninstalling ESET Smart Security 6
- adding Steam on whitelist in Windows Firewall
- forwarding Steam's ports on my router
- rebooting the laptop again and again
- installing Steam Beta client
- adding "-clearbeta" on the "execute path" on steam shortcut
- trying "Compatibility mode" with every possible combination
- running as Administrator
- disabling any possible application which could interfere with Steam (disabling autorun of any software except Steam)
- logging in with friend's account
- installing DirectX End-User Runtime Full
- installing Microsoft XNA Game Studio 4.0
- installing Microsoft XNA Game Studio 4.0 Refresh
- changing power settings to High performance and other two
- connecting to the Internet directly w/ LAN cable to modem (not router)

I'm becomming desperate as I don't have any more ideas what could I do.

Some more information that could be usefull:

- in debug.log I found this:

(copied from other forum, because currently the debug.log is empty, but was full of those exact errors on the previous installation of Steam)

[0405/001534:INFO:dhcp_proxy_script_adapter_fetcher_win. cc(265)] Error fetching PAC URL from DHCP: 2

- in steam.log I found this:

I've uploaded all the logs I found in 'logs' folder:

- connection_log: http://pastebin.com/hMgJyMVe
- content_log: http://pastebin.com/ZYDatkAF
- parental_log: http://pastebin.com/00HTnnMy

Also, my DxDiag log: http://pastebin.com/ipv7SEYQ

My laptop is Lenovo G770 (i5-2450M 2,5GHz, 6GB of RAM, AMD Radeon 6650M running lastest Leshcat’s UnifL Catalyst 13.9 WHQL).

I really don't know what to try, because I've searched the entire Google and the whole Steam and similar forums for answers, but nothing seems to work.

Please, help!

Best regards,
Shadow X7

Yes this is the problem with .NET because it's network framework which enables apps to use your internet connection and stuff... So when you start Steam without any game in steamapps folder, it's all right, but when you start to download anything, it causes Steam to crash because .NET is missing or is corrupted.

I posted that i fixed problem by removing .NET 3.5, i should have probably added, that I also removed my local (non-english) windows language pack in windows 8 settings(after .net uninstall) and left only 1( english), language pack on, as i noticed, there is warning about language packs on microsoft site for .Net 3.5 posted by FlavourFav. Now of course as soon as i wanted to play game, Net 3.5 installed itself back again, but steam continued to work and i can download another games from my library :)

I found the solution with guy on reddit. You need to download .NET Framework 3.5: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39236 and then do this: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443.aspx

This totally worked for me.

thank you very much... it helped... now i must reinstall all games

try to uninstall .NET 3.5 and install it again, or check that second link and look at "Enabling the .NET Framework 3.5 in Control Panel"
