Weird alt key problem [SOLVED]
Generally im on WASD setup for movement in games
Shift for crouch, alt for slow walking, either by keeping it pressed or as toggle.

I dont play many games nowadays that require this so i didnt notice there was something wrong here, but yesterday played CS again after 6 months and went into issues when trying to sneak.

When i press alt + a or alt + s or alt + d everyhting works fine, but as soon as i press alt + w it bugs out. Installed a programm to display keypresses and turns out:
Alt + w ends up being alt + shift + w
WTF??? This is in general also in windows not just in games
I already googled this but couldnt find anything helpful.
And ideas?

You say it ends up being Alt + Shift + w. Are you sure you don't mean Alt + Ctrl + w? Because the right Alt key on many keyboard layouts is an Alt Gr key, which is different than the left Alt key in that it simulates a Ctrl+Alt press.
yes it results in alt + shift + w

OK, that's my theory out of the window then. 😅 I'm not really sure what to suggest other than make sure you've got no programs installed that might be interfering with keyscan codes (autohotkey, key macro software, even gamepad software can affect it).

I hope someone here can help you fix this if it's not something like that.
Jea i checked all runing programs for shortcuts and whatnot but even than, that doesnt make sense, really weird

If you have access another keyboard - connect it to your PC and check if problem persists.

Most game i know use C for crouch, not sure i have seen ALT being used for many years, only very old games use ( ALT and TAB and can get issue with Steam overlay. or windows hotkey ) also why game devs try avoid use them anymore.

and CS is also very old maybe part of the problem. ( game forum might know better with all hotkey. )

Steps to Fix the Alt + W Issue:
Check Sticky Keys and Filter Keys:

Go to Control Panel > Ease of Access Center > Make the keyboard easier to use.
Make sure Sticky Keys and Filter Keys are turned off, as they can cause unintended key combinations.
Keyboard Driver Update:

Ensure your keyboard drivers are up to date. Go to Device Manager > Keyboards, right-click your keyboard, and choose Update Driver.
Key Remapping Software:

If you’re using any key remapping software (like AutoHotKey, SharpKeys, or manufacturer-specific software), check to make sure Alt and Shift aren’t inadvertently remapped.
Check for Conflicting Hotkeys:

Some applications (such as Discord, screen recording software, or third-party utilities) may assign shortcuts that could conflict with your keyboard inputs. Check these programs and disable or modify any conflicting hotkeys.
Test Another Keyboard:

If you have another keyboard, try it out to see if the issue persists. If the problem goes away, it could be a hardware fault with your current keyboard.
Reset Steam Controller/Key Bindings:

If the issue only happens in Steam games, try resetting or checking the key bindings for the game you're playing. Steam also has its own controller or keyboard binding settings.
If this helps, I’d appreciate your support!:luv:
