Stupid question - Steam Time help
Yes, this is a stupid question but I would like to know the answer. When I sign on to steam, I look at my friends to see who is online and to see when my other friends were online. I am on EST. When I see a friend who lives on the western part of the U.S. (3 hours behind my time) and see that he was last online 8 hours ago, is that 8 hours ago my time or 8 hours ago his time? Anybody know this answer and thank you.

It's all of the above. Your friends last online time was 8 hours ago worldwide.

Right for you it might be 3:23AM your time and for your friend who it's 8:23AM, 8 hours ago would be 12:23AM their time. Whatever timezone your in 8 hours ago.

8 hours ago for you is still 8 hours ago for your friend. He doesn't literally live in the past you know. :KentHappy:
Other the that make sure windows has right timezone is selected and in sync with a timeserver.

even windows system logs is effect by this reboot pc. if needed, how will could pull a system timestap at 20:00 if local pc clock is set wrong. ( server ppl do this. ) it might not be vital for you until you have to go thorugh own log and look for whats wrong.

gl with it.

Steam's last online status has nothing to do with what the time/date is set to on your PC.

Yes it has. ( to much wrong date and time and it will fail. ) already been proof by other steam user with wrong input.

Not sure this is relevant here with us 4-5 time zone.

ps.
Copy from net , US not so simple if you have wrong zone set at local pc then you move around, and maybe is not at autoupdate.

There are 9 time zones by law in the USA and its dependencies. However, adding the time zones of 2 uninhabited US territories, Howland Island and Baker Island, brings the total count to 11 time zones.

If you write to a steam user that's online, and have left pc then you won't get a reply from them.
until pc shutdown in hibernation, and they look rude to you because they did not reply. ( so detail matter if you look at how wrong Global communication can go, if you don't know them steam online player IRL and when they are online.

Thank you, I understand. So if west coast friend signed off 8 hours ago, I subtract 8 hours from my time and another 3 hours to see what time (in his time) he signed off. Basically, what I wanted to determine was how late in the day (his time) did he play. Thank you!
Right, subtract 8 hours from your time, convert that time to the desired time zone.
